[Spoiler]PB44 Lurker Thread: Nostalgia Edition

Walls are going up to then go into castles for more trade routes/coastal defense. After that? Other than some cities finishing up vital infrastructure, everything will be producing knights/very soon ( 6t? ) Cuirs.

Is it just me or is that a play? This post is devolving into a rant as I'm writing it, so sorry to superdeath who will read this down the line and to fellow lurkers.

Do the math, assuming he has stone, because if he doesn't then I have no comment:
75 hammer investment on a city that nets 1 extra trade route (3 commerce per turn on average) that will last him until he researches economics (where he could, ya know, switch to free market and then research the relatively cheap corporation tech and get 2 routes instead of one), which is 40 turns down the line. (really giving him a lot of leeway there). So, perhaps 120 extra commerce on a city. Let's compare with some alternatives:

1. Call 1-800-GOLDNOW. That's 1-eight hundred, gold now (ok, ok, more like 80 but the point still stands). He could use immediate wealth production to fuel a push in the direction of rifling, or get chemistry for that unfortunate, but heavily-workshopped terrain of his (now that i look on the map in screenshots, i see he's not even really working them). Short term gains outweigh most everything when you are behind and are losing. Also, if he doesn't have stone, this is just a terrible investment at face value.
   
2. Build a city. He has a city near the whales he could plant that would be able to grow pretty easily. (Also, he's building an aqueduct in a city nearby which still has health to go? Dubious investment as well.
   
3. Build units. Nuff said.
   
4. Build actually useful building like idk, grocers/markets everywhere?
   

Superdeath is safe right now and he more or less realizes it, so dev and catch up and not do whatever.

Also, is there an apostolic palace built or something? i don't see why SD would be building temples.

I don't think his chances are as good as he says they are, but he is right to asses the situation as one of great opportunity. Naval warfare is a huge resource drain for both Alhazard and Gavagai, and SD should make the best of it.

Question is, what are commodore's plans...

Corp requires Constitution, and Economics also has the opportunity cost of not going to Rifling or Mil Trad. Essentially it is a hedge

Yeah, normally it does. Perhaps he had it paused or did it real quick so pbspy didn't notice his score go up and down?

Are airships really going to be able to save All here? I don't see another reason for going Sci Method. I guess All's plan is to have air ships act as his sentry net and then if Gavagai pushes in use them to scratch the top defender so his ships can win? Isn't the issue though that SOTL's will just be able to kill frigates regardless of being hit with airships? And a frigate can still appear as top defender instead of SOTL since they have the same base strength.

I'm not sure losing Pyramids means anything at this point in the game, but losing your cap is very disheartening. I think I had my cap burned out of nowhere several times

Im officially conceding to Gavagai unless Alhazard has a GREAT comeback. But without his capital ( i think thats where Mids were ) he is finished as a tech power. He didnt research far into the naval tech area, and is saving gold/teching Scientific method? He is pretty far from rifles, and Gavagai looks like he is setting up to raid my few coastal cities ( i spent like 600 gold to upgrade some rifles in threatened cities ) and i just cant compete with gavagai's land OR his position on the map. Really wish this would have been like a donut map script or something... being monkey in the middle kinda blows.

All-n-all besides obvious map "balance" i think the only real mistakes i made during this PB is not choking and killing chumchu earlier. I could have maybe gotten to currency instead of HBR, and used that to pressure Gavagai early so that he couldnt use his OP swords to destroy mali. Overall i dont think i did terrible considering my land/neighbors so ill take this as a sorta-win. I feel i handled the end game better in this pb compared to say, PB40 where i was having a ton more fun being a contender.
