civ 6 "little league" game?
|
I think that if we're going to create a curated of approved Civs/Leaders, we need to develop some criteria so that it's not based on just vibes or personal preferences.
I don't think anyone on this forum has the knowledge or skill to create a functioning balance mod or ban list for civ 6, and the skill level within games has been all over the place so I don't take the results as gospel.
Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying that variant games shouldn't be played: I'm saying that playing without restrictions should also be on the table. I know I wouldn't play a game with arbitrary restrictions created by players that don't know what they are doing, nor the effect of those restrictions.
Yeah, I certainly don't see myself as qualified to decide those things- much the reason why I didn't say anything about settings in the game I signed up for recently.
Edit: I do give more credence to a curated balance mod like BBG because it's in use by a large community and constantly being updated. It's certainly not perfect but none of them ever are

I would be up for a BBG game starting in the second half of February. Have travel plans until then, and while I won't be completely offline, don't want to join new games
Civ7 will be out by then as well, and we'll know if RB has much interest in it
I'm going to Japan in March, back the weekend before Easter. I'll be looking to start a new game or two around that point as well (hyper random RtR game, maybe the same for basic civ 6 etc).
This was the original intention of PBEM18, hence the unconventional civ roster in that game (although it turned out that Phoenicia are actually just good). The trick is in picking which civs are "weak" enough to qualify. PBEM18 had the players submit lists of who they thought were the (six? eight?) weakest civs, and the most "popular" of those were used in the draw.
One simple option is just doing a draw of all non-banned, non-NFP civs which have never been played at RB. Or for a less restrictive set, all civs which have never been played more than once and never won.
Leaders who have never won in RB (never played in bold):
Base: Cleopatra Catherine Gorgo Pericles Gandhi Mvemba a Nzinga Tomyris Philip Gilgamesh Rise & Fall Seondeok Wilhemina Chandragupta Tamar Robert the Bruce? Lautoro Shaka Gathering Storm: Kupe Wilfrid Pachacuti Mansa Musa Kristina Eleanor New Frontier: Lady Six Sky Simon Bolivar Menelik Basil II Ambiorix Hammurabi Ba Trieu Kublai Khan Joao II Leader Pass: Abraham Lincoln Nzinga Mbande Tokugawa Nader Shah Wu Zetian Ramses Sundiata Keta Theodora Sejong Ludwig Elizabeth I Misc: Jadwiga John Curtin Cyprus? Jayavarman Gitarja Couple of those I need to double-check. But that's the initial list you'd be drawing from, with quite a few strong "never wons" and some interesting "never playeds."
