Brian went Cathy (IMP/CRE) of Aztecs (Jag/SacAlter - Myst/Hunting)
Leader first was interesting. I personally felt that I needed to grab the civ first in order to ensure I got the starting techs I wanted + not end up with a crap civ with those techs (If I hadn't gotten to Inca). Knowing what your land looks like + having advantages and disadvantages assigned to those makes the starting techs that much more important. As a pick Cathy was interesting. I understand the bonus of IMP in this game and I see all the ways it can be used. Nevertheless I still feel like IMP is beaten by FIN. I like the CRE part though. I think that is a very solid trait for this game. Getting the CRE/IMP over some of the other IMPs was pretty good, though IMP/FIN may end up beating that out. Remember too that the merc spec means that's one less tile you're working. Plus it doesn't help you tech until AFTER your first settler, whereas FIN will be giving commerce not gold and help tech before that first city. (Still I'd have to work a plains, but that's negligble).
So I think its a strong leader for this game, but he could have had Inca...
As for Civ, Aztec is not bad. Jag is good if there's no real iron around, but I'm betting it will. Honestly you take Aztec for the SacAlter which is amazing. I love those things. Really good UB. The starting techs are basically inoffensive. Myst and Hunting. Myst you lose a grass for a plain and hunting you lose a forest on a deer. These are mostly harmless. I do think that not starting with hunting is better. Both of these techs are cheaper and if he get copper early he won't be able to build warriors. Now, I might end up researching hunting early due to the deer anyway, but at least I will have the choice.
So overall I think its strong. With the myst/hunting start I assume he will tech AGR first and have his worker camp the deer.
(Hmmm, note to self, I should tech hunting first and camp the deer for 4f)
As for Brian himself, I need more experience playing with him. The only experience I have is a few subbed turns at the end of FFH7. I never really played with him or have read his threads. It will be an adventure.

Lewwyn went Mansa (SPI/FIN) of Inca (Q/Terrace - AGR/Myst)
But that doesn't matter because he's a crazy rushing fool who will get stuck in an ancient war and be surpassed by all non-participants!
FYI I think my picks are the best. :neenernee

Commist went with Victoria (IMP/FIN) of Byz (Phracts/Hippo - Myst/Wheel)
He went Civ first which was a good choice. Obviously Byz phracts are awesome. That's the only reason you take this. Myst/Wheel are terrible startign techs. You start with a worker so what he gonna do? Road everything while you tech AGR? And after you tech AGR, and your worker finishes his farm, what he gonna do? Road some more? Farm the FP? This basically ensures that Commist is going to be teching AGR/Hunting/Mining first. Also he lost his village which is a shame considering he's FIN and could have gotten 4cpt from it. And that's the balance here, your start sucks but you have the promise of something better with phracts. Too bad WE are apparently unbanned. But even with that promise of power I wouldn't take this civ. I simply hate the starting techs.
Leader was good. IMP is pretty much what everyone seems to want and he paired it with FIN. I think this has a lot of potential given the grocer in the capital will enhance FIN's natural bonus. Of the IMP leaders I think this is probably the best and my biggest competition. CRE/IMP is great but it takes second place to FIN. However one of the drawbacks of this civ is that Commist won't be able to grab an early religion without delaying some much needed worker techs. Popping borders may become a problem for them.
Commodore is a good player. I think he makes a lot of mistakes, but he always seems to be able to recover, which I find odd. I think he's going to be tough competition in this game. Mist is less of a BTS player and may not really bring a lot to the table. Maybe he'll be able to predict 7's map since he likes making crazy maps. I somehow doubt it though.
Overall, strong Leader and civ with a weaker start. The best leader of the IMP picks.

Scooter went with Joao (IMP/EXP) of Mongolia (Keshik/Ger - Hunting/Wheel)
Scooter also went with civ first. Mongolia is again a UU centric pick. And its a pretty good one. I really fear those Keshiks. His starting techs are okay. Wheel loses that village again, but one could argue that is better than some of the other bonuses. Hunting though again loses the forest for the deer. That means a 5 yield tile instead of a 6 yield. The bonus is though that you are able to camp it immediately while teching Agr, so it's really not that bad. A good pick and one I like better than Byz actually.
Leader, Leader why this leader? Scooter was the last to pick a leader and apparently he wanted IMP so bad he paired it with EXP. Now EXP gives you a hospital which is worthless. It also gives half price granaries which is one of the main reasons to take it. Also the worker bonus at the beginning of the game is nice but we all start with a worker in this game which is a small nerf. I think the biggest concern I would have with this pick is after the early game, what use are these traits? IMP gives you more GGs but that's about it. He will be fast out of the gate, but these traits don't help after that. Plus didn't he get enough of Joao in our Always Peace game?
Of the options he had left for an IMP leader, I can see why scooter went with IMP/EXP. I actually would be a more afraid of IMP/AGG enforcing land grabs with shock axes. But then I wouldn't have married myself to IMP so much. Overall I think the Civ is strong but the Leader pick is less so.
As for Scooter himself, I've played in 14, 22 and half a duel with him. He's a solid player, though I would say he's better with diplo. In terms of civ micro skill I can beat him, and pretty much have in 22. If this was a diplo game I would be much more afraid of him. Since it's AW I'd put him a notch below on my opponents list. One thing to note is that Scooter can be aggressive. It will be interesting to see if he pushes someone around early.

I'll wait for Serdoa to make his last pick for commentary.
No one picked AGG. Which makes me happy. If I don't have to deal with an AGG neighbor I'll be able to worry less.
I think hunting first is how I'm gonna have to go. A nice early 6 yield tile will be huge. I'll farm the grassland and finish hunting the turn I move it onto the deer.
I'm considering trying to sweep the religions. I think it would be fun, but would seriously impair my development.
Also if it wasn't clear I am really enjoying this setup. Its like a puzzle and I'm having more fun with it then I have with a bunch of other games. I'm really enjoying 22 but that's in late stages. I like 29 but the turn moves too slowly (I know 1t a day is too slow! Gaspar pyft).
I'm the only one posting in this thread.

I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Thanks for th posts guys. Now I don`t look so mad scientist-y. I`m on the train so I can`t post the screenie, (or send the turn) but I played the fir turn on my laptop. And how sweet it was.
I am working the village and building a warrior. Tech is set to hunting(34 beakers) next is mining(43 beakers). I`m making 13 beakers a turn. I will finish hunting in 3, then overflow to mining and finish mining in 3. The worker will put 2 the

Phone is messing up...
2 turns into the farm. Then on T2 it moves onto the deer. T3 starts camp. T7 moves to RR PH and starts mine. T10 depends on how long BW takes. Forgot to check beakers count. It may have to finish the farm before chopping the corn. In fact it probably will because my cap will work the deer starting T6 grow and work either the village or the 5h mine depending on how long BW is taking.. I would like to start the settler at pop 3 but + may start at pop 2 again depending on BW.
I`m really looking forward to this game. Starting techs and FIN are already paying off like I thought they would. early gold is huge in these games because they give you such a huge tech boost. This village is the same. Now I just need to settle that incense for

Here's that pic.
It has erroneous signage since I'll stop the worker on T2 not T3. Also you may note all my possible city sites. I will settle the incense one first. Though I should scout the area a bit.
Mnnnn love that teching goodness.
I seriously hope that there is no copper on that RR PH.
