“The wind went mute and the trees in the forest stood still. It was time for the last tale.”
My day 1 strategy, if I was playing, would be to mess about for about a day and a half and then try to start a bandwagon against the most innocent looking player (barring any actual evidence). My reasoning is that wolves are generally less likely to say really stupid things, and also careful to not be inactive. Does the evidence from past games support this theory? It probably depends heavily on player type as well.
As an aside, many players like saying that they will play/appear exactly the same whether they're a wolf or a villager. Is there any evidence to suggest this is the case? Like, did zakalwe play like his usual self last game?
I think I did it when I was the SK in the FFH game. That was easier since I was legitimately hunting wolves. Plus over 10 games I've been villager 9 times and I've been mostly unpredictable in each game. But then I haven't played wolf here.

Like, did zakalwe play like his usual self last game? You can probably figure out that for yourself (as in your own impression probably makes more sense to you than anyone elses) - coz you've played with a few of us now who've been village sometimes & wolf sometimes ![]() Having said that, last game isn't that useful for comparison with single-wolf-pack games because we had the benefit of being able to hunt the other wolf pack to provide ourselves with cover. Presumably good comparison with this multi-wolf game, although we don't know what Lewwyn's created for us yet ![]() And on that note ... Selrahc's suggested plan is a serious wtf ![]()
...wounding her only makes her more dangerous!
![]() It's More Fun to be Jack of All Trades than Master of One.
I think Selrahc's plan has merit (gathering observations and not tipping his hand to avoid affecting people's reactions), but it fails badly on two counts:
1) Announcing it 2) Stating that he will do nothing in the meantime He could easily carry out this plan by simply refraining from announcing it, and still pursuing *some* leads while gathering others. And I think this would only work on leads that others wouldn't bother pursuing, particularly fancy voting patterns and such. When I did my fancy day 1 vote analysis plan earlier, I came up with the plan on day 1 and put it in motion day 2. And then I almost hung for it ![]() That said, I'm honoured that people apparently miss me this much ![]() Also, I agree with scooter's argument about Selrahc. It definitely looks like a wolf-would-never-do-that gambit, I find it unlikely he'd do it as a villager. Which is what we said about uberfish when he made his day 1 confession...
About trying to play like a villager, that's my point exactly pling. People will always try to play like a villager, no point not to. Question is if (most) people are actually capable of doing that. I still think most wolves would tend to be more calculated and make fewer slip-ups, based on the simple theory that they have a larger investment in the game and they have all the information they need to construct their arguments with. A crafty wolf will be able to fake villager confusion and mistakes, bordering on suspicion but not quite reaching the lynch block. But what do I know, I'm a horrible hunter and I've never played wolf
![]() Lewwyn Wrote:I suppose this applies whether you are a villager or a wolf? :neenernee Ironically, past games have proven true for both cases. ![]() Anyhow, I think Selhrac's play is telling, but not as much about Selhrac's role as people may think. By creating a relatively minor dispute, you in theory can start the ball rolling in terms of people setting up camps and trying to diplo their way through things instead of just relying on "Oh, X voted randomly on Y for first-day lynch with no data". So, in reality weather Selrahc does this or not, it's quite effective at moving the discussion along and trying to sniff out allegiances earlier than after day 1 lynchmob.
