Sorry I was AWOL for the selection process. Looks like you got Shaka AGG/EXP of the Ottomans (Ham, Jannisary).
What's your thinking behind that choice?

I don't know many personalities on this forum well, so this is a rough idea of the picks made so far. We can have a more fleshed out judgment later.
From my own work in PB23, I am not as hype about EXP and CRE as they are in base BTS.

Commodore/dtay: well according to Joey, Commodore is super aggressive early on, so using the Quecha to stifle neighboring civs and aggressively plant in their face looks like the idea here. Pro + Inca have natural synergy in this mod. He drops a city in your face, before you can react it has walls, granary, and popped borders. Could be trouble. Starting techs Agriculture/Mysticism.
Jerman Goey: Zululand rules, hands down. Starting techs Agriculture/Hunting.
Retep: IMP/EXP John of Aztec-- not seeing the super obvious synergy here, maybe he wants earlier GG for super promo'd Jaguars? Starting techs Mysticism/Hunting.
Grimace: SPI/IND Ramses of Celtia-- I don't see the connection here either. Duns are a little less crappy in RtR. Starting techs are Mysticism/Hunting, going religious route?
HAK + Fenn: ORG/EXP Mehmed of HRE. ORG Rathauses, good obvious pick. Mysticism/Hunting (sense a theme?)

Our starting techs are The Wheel and Agriculture.

Everyone to date has chosen Hunting because scouts are at half-effectiveness until it's researched. The love of Mysticism surprises me a bit. With AGG & Barracks' culture bonus we don't need monuments of course.

I liked Shaka a lot when Joey and I were looking at Civs for PB22, but ultimately I kinda dropped out of that game (Too busy owning you and BB in BGPB3).

New Expansive is easily my favorite trait now. I really like cheap buildings and new expansive gives cheap Market, Grocer, Aqueduct, Harbor. Cheaper workers and workboats are also a nice bonus (35% is also higher than the base 25% in vanilla iirc. Its not a huge bonus, but its an extra 2 hammers on pre-math chops).

Aggressive is cool too, since Barracks now give +1 culture. Aggressive barracks cost about the same as Monuments now, which I like better than chopping monuments. Barracks also don't require Mysticism to build, unlike Monuments (unless that changed). We also get cheap stables which are really nice.

Other leaders I liked were Mao, to get the full old Expansive bonus of cheap granary + cheap workers. Suryavarman is nice but without the cheap Libraries idk if I like Creative as much anymore. Joao was off the board by the time we got to pick but he would've been cool.

For Civs I was obviously like Carthage best - cheap harbor + boosted numidian cavalry. Mongols were also in play with cheap gers and Keshiks. Ottomans are fine though - cheap aqueducts take the sting out of 100 hammer Hamams, and we get combat I janissaries down the line when that comes into play.

Hunting is really popular because it enables pastures too, so its not nearly as weak as it was in vanilla. We have double corn so I'm not too worried about hunting, although the half effective scouting kinda sucks.

A bunch of the newer members on here all come from another site called Badgame, where we've played through 2 pitboss games so far and are deep into the third one. Ashamedly, even GermanJoey posts there.
