[SPOILERS] Khan's Thread

You win points for creativity but fall short due to the shortage of candidates that spring to mind. I've used quite the variety of naming themes so far. Got nothing clear in my mind currently though.

Early build order is worker, warrior (until size 2), settler I expect. Disappointing lack of resources, i'm definitely spoilt from previous games. Technology options are likely either BW next to chop into the settler (IMP woo) or Agriculture to get a floodplain farmed.

My second city would, optimally, have overlap with a food resource from the capital which is pre-improved, as well as having a new 6 food tile of it's own. That's the ideal. I'm hoping we have options to the east, a farmed floodplains would not be the worst way to start a city off. They would be likely cottaged over in the short-medium term. Possibly not though, cottageable land is not in short supply.

Haha. That's basically it, there is no enthusiasm to report as the community has largely drifted away from civ 4 PBEM reports which, I guess, makes perfect sense. I have a physical notepad in front of my PC that usually has garbled notes to myself to keep track of things, I probably should use my thread to do this instead but it's just quick to refer to paper as I can be ingame simultaneously.

That being said, if your (or anyone else's) interest remains, then I shall endeavour to report more frequently. Starting with the most important decision, naming theme. Any suggestions? I won't promise to use them but they will be taken under consideration. I like to use something I can easily think of more names for without having to reference any websites. eg. board games. I am a bit of a board game enthusiast so I just named cities after games from my collection.

FWIW, I still read avidly. I just don't comment nearly as much as I used to. I lost too many games to believe that I had any useful advice to give, but have read enough that I don't really have mechanics questions either. Which takes out 90% of my potential comments.

How about ruler's titles?  Capital would of course be Khan.  But I'm sure you'd have enough variations to keep busy for a while.

Sounds good. Bonus points for feeding my ego. The capital is all about me mwahaha. Titles it is.

I appreciate your comments about lurking, that makes sense. The game is also bound to have lost a little of it's lustre after so long.

Changing topic, my opponents seem a mixed bag from the research i've done. I would consider Thoth to be the main competitor; Krill posting in his thread will certainly not harm his cause. I'm used to El Grillo though who I think is rather formidable so I think I can remain competitive at least. Any bets on how long before I declare war and raze someone's city? I have an unenviable record of being the first to raze a city in every game as well as unnecessarily declaring war countless times. I get ludicrously defensive of land that I envisage as 'mine'.

It looks like everyone but Auro has a dedicated lurker, so I'll stay in here moving forward. I've already forgotten what their starts looked like smile

I'll bet on you razing a city before t55, and declaring war on at least 3 players by t90. And hey, at least you weren't the first to raze a city in PBEM74A hammer

I assume your capital has popped borders by now - how does the land look?

Sounds good. Welcome. Turn 55? A bold prediction, I like it. Thanks for the reminder from 74A, a learning to be sure. That situation did not develop well!

There is a potential double pigs second city but, even with creative, I don't like how slow it will be and it can get no help from pre-improved capital tiles.

That seems to be an unusual amount of freshwater lakes. If that's true for the rest of the map, it might make your leader pick better, as there are clearly defined choke points to secure and fortify. Your capital is also really badly situated for sharing food or even any improved tiles, so my usual dot-mapping heuristics aren't helpful.

I agree. My ideal is to overlap one of it's two (ha) food resources whilst picking up a new, strong food tile of it's own. That's not happening here. Will continue circling the capital with our scout.

There's a silver, crabs pigs site available. It will take so many techs though. We already need Bronze Working, Agriculture, Wheel and Pottery early. Now we can add fishing and animal husbandry to the list. Don't get me wrong, these are all early techs but it's not often there is an immediate need for all of them.

The scout has continued his slow loop around the capital. The north-east is a cluster of peaks and resource-less tiles. Not worth a picture. Google Himalayas if curious.

Decided to go for an optimistic Magellan's with the scout. In retrospect, this was a mistake as there do not appear to be any significant seas.

Borders popped and Bronze Working finished at end of turn.

What do you think about NE of the copper for our first city:

It can have a pre-improved copper mine for a strong yield tile when making workers and settlers. Will require a little planning, but could be viable.

Easily accessible stone:

I'm sure there are some fun goodies we can use this for.
