LKendter plays SMAC again

I think it's +1 food each tile, and they're all rainy, so three (capped at two before that one tech).

Yup +1 food. It's nice for humans, but the AI claiming it gives them a HUGE boost since their terraforming is all over the place (as is tradition in Civ games.) Edit: Also you can terraform on top of the jungle without destroying it; it's just a flat +1.

I meet the Hive in 2179.  That also gets me the frequencies for Deirdre and Zakharov.  I pick up 5 techs.  

Since I can now call the council, I see that Santiago is totally screwed with just 5 votes on the council.

I continue to find stuff I totally forgot about.  The need to flag obsolete units to not see them listed as possible builds.  
Prototypes costing 50% more means you really need to build them in your shield heavy base first.  
I see an option to upgrade all units of a type at once.  I am still trying to figure out if I can do individual upgrades.

I watched a hive colony pod get zapped my multiple mind worms in the area.  I suspect that happened to Santiago very early, and they can't recover.

So far I am not happy with my position.  I feel that my expansion has been to slow.  Seeing the hive with 10 cities is not good.
I know my former use has been substandard.  I worked to many tiles by the capitol while I am stuck at size 4.  The first borehole was a waste, as I need to unlock the techs to remove those annoying caps.  Before I start the next game, I need to review the tech tree and locate these key techs.

Press Ctrl-U to upgrade a unit individually.  It must have its entire movement available.

You have 1236 energy?!  That's, like, twenty colony pods... why on earth planet haven't you been spending it?

Not knowing remembering which techs lift caps, expanding slowly, inefficient former use, not spending energy -- it is like he read my thread and was infected somehow. lol

The SMAC rust is massive. Every few moves I am realizing another thing to do better.

Add another to the list to do.  Perform defensive terraforming to remove the fungus to close to a base.  It may have saved several lost pop points.

Next game I need to do a tighter build.  With the constant mind worm assault, I need to treat this closer to a Civ3 always war game.

I know understand why T-hawk wanted industrial automation ASAP.  This is critical tech to get hab complex going, and larger bases.  With Morgan lower pop limit, delaying this was a major mistake.

I get ecological engineering complete, and remove the annoying mineral limits.  2 more limits to remove.

I forget how powerful alien artifacts are.  Plugged one into a network node, and got a free tech.

Keep at least one unit on an exploring boat.  It is great for hitting stray pods on small islands.

2210 sees my first war with Miriam going Vendetta.  I killed one unit.  With them on another island, I doubt I will see a lot of action.

With the penalties of some of the techs, you really need to specialize a city or two.  Going wealth and getting very green troops is killing me.  I need to get some cities with multiple troop morale help going.

The AI can really botch happiness.

How is Lal getting so many drone riots? With the extra talents the Peacekeepers get, he should be doing better than that. Maybe he went into social engineering choices that totally wiped out his policing ability?

Sadly, my first game in ages isn't looking. Of all people, Deidre has become a monster.
Failure to expand into the jungle area faster really hurt.
