[Spoilers] Chevalier Gives You Something to Cry Aboot

I guess play Vanilla Civ until Medieval era, then find out how viable a Diplomatic Victory push is?

Honestly, with loyalty pressure, and everyone else playing garbage civs, I think even someone else running away in science won't be fatal, since it'll be hard to actually convert a conquest to victory. That might be a way to try for Culture/Diplomacy?

Still undecided yet.

Spain and Egypt are on the upper end of the scale.

Especially Egypt as a neighbour is nasty.

Why choose a game setup where the options are so bad as to contemplate quitting (even just joking) prior to game start?

Confirming TheArchduke's pick as CANADA.

Well, we gotta find out how bad those civs really are.

Consider it a punishment game for screwing up Russia once again. crazyeye

Archduke, you cool with me assuming command here?

I think the possibilities of a Canadian Culture/Diplo victory might just be possible. Conquest in GS is way harder than people who's main experience of warfare is vanilla or even R&F. I think there's some unexplored territory here.

CMF ... here's your starting screenshot. Are you planning to continue this thread or start your own?

Good luck!

I'll roll with this one, thanks! Thank you for putting together the map - please ignore the inevitable venting, rage, and speculations about your parenthood that will follow in the heat of competition, you know I mean none of it.

Looking at my screenshot...hm.

Food is plentiful, with an obvious farm triangle immediately visible, sheep, and wine feeding the city. Irrigation, AH, and Masonry boosts also immediately visible.

The worrysome thing is the lack of production in general. The hills are few and grasslandy. I'll grow my capital quickly, but building things is going to be slow. There's a really unfortunate line of forests and hills that prevent me from seeing what would be the second ring of my city if I settle here. However, I do like 3 4-yield tiles in the first ring, and 2 of them are easily improved. The wine could give us Craftsmanship if I beeline Irrigation, farm the Rice, and go warrior/scout/slinger -> builder. Hmmm...

Moving seems out. Can't step off the water, obviously. Crossing the river also seems to do more harm than good, although it's impossible to know for certain - I wish my start was mirrored so the warrior could take a peek first! So that leave moving W or NE. NE moves away from Sheep/Rice and towards, well, ???? because of the forests. I'd settle on my 2/2 hill and wipe out the forest, which seems dumb. So probably not. And W moves us away from the sheep and 2/2 hill to gain, uh, a grassland hill and bringing the wines into 1st ring. But we waste a forest to do so.

So SIP I think.

Sidenote: I will write up some more later, but I played a test game as Canada and it's rough. Going all the way into the Renaissance as a vanilla civ is going to be a challenge. Don't have any high hopes for this game, but we'll see if we can cling on with our fingernails nad make something happen in around turn 120 or so.

Hi Chevalier.

First of all, if you want me as a dedlurker you can have me. That way I can at least share the blame for the civ choice. And here I thought it could not get worse then Norway or Georgia. I can also jump in and play for 1-2 weeks if you ever need me.

Second of all, I thought with Sweden being terrible and trust me, it is, I thought choosing Canada could at least provide us with the fun of being a ridiculous underdog. No suprise wars against us also means no suprise wars which could be nice as we have a 10 turn warning. The theming bonus of Sweden is ridiculous terrible and with Canada you can actually have 1-2 more cities in the Tundra.

I also concur with SIP. You got 3 tiles with 4 yield and you only loose a forest by moving E.
