I have some bad news about our quest to outlast everybody.
El Grillo offered to trade maps with me, and since I never scout, this was a great deal for me:
Elkad (circled in red), while down to one city, has a two tile island that no one should want to invade. In addition, more people have little islands to which they can retreat. Right now, I'm alive at Miguelito's mercy. Vanrober has lost two cities in three turns to Ruff. I see only one way that I can survive until the end game: I hereby concede to Miguelio/Rusten.
Admittedly, Mjmd and El Grillo are both healthy sizes, comparable with Vanrober, so all together they outnumber Miguelito. I don't know the geopolitical situation enough to know if any of them have avenues of expansion or if they can work together against the Byzantines. Looking over the world, I'm reminded of how much I love Civ4's map generator, so I've decided that after two games of playing tiny empires, next game I'll play one that spans continents.

I didn't know aqueducts stretched two tiles. Then again, the last time I built an aqueduct, it broke into my home and kicked my cat.
Ok, less spam. There's not much going on in the city-state of Spain:
To give you a glimpse into what my turns are like, do you whip the War Elephant in the queue at Madrid? The goal is to survive as long as possible. So, one thought could be to whip as many units as possible for as long as possible. The trouble is that against Cataphracts and even against Knights, Elephants are poor defenders, since they don't get defensive bonuses. They're great attacking into Knights with the help of Catapults, but that's the not situation here. Longbows would be better city defenders (although for some reason, I'm going for crossbows instead? I can't remember why. Am I so optimistic as to go for Engineering?? Swapped to Feud. I think I hadn't expected to get either, but then circumnavigation came in and cut my research times in half.).
I've built a forge in Madrid with the help of Industrious. I'm also sending a worker to re-cottage my dyes. (Cairo didn't have to pillage my cottages. ) Miguelito lost a city last turn, dropping from 30 to 29. On the other hand, he has a sentry 'phract in my lands. I think that I can afford to grow onto a cottage. So long as I'm not a completely free kill, I think I can play a little loose. So, we don't whip the elephant. Because we're in Hereditary Rule, we don't care about the happiness hit of 1-pop whips, and I can whip from 5->4 without feeling too bad. Yes, the food cost of the whip is higher, but I don't really care. Working my food+cottage, I've got a +10 food surplus at size 4, so two turns for growth with a granary. With a forge, Great Prophet, and city square, I make 5 hammers per turn, so basically, I can get a War Elephant every 4 turns while still growing cottages.
So, while I am playing a OCC, there is still a little civ buzz in the brain with these turns.

Oh you ain't seen nothing yet. Go into worldbuilder make yourself a 1 tile island city with 1 tile hill island in the second ring. Build an Aqueduct there and enjoy it going over water.

GG! I'm sure the Santiaguians happily sacrificed their lives in exchange for the preservation of Madrid
Ftr I came to the conclusion that you must have no sailing, because there was no lighthouse in Madrid (but now I remember that you actually settled a city). Off to reading the thread, will surely be fun!

For the most part the placement of aqueducts on the map is very good. If there is a nearby mountain for example it will flow from that. Civ4 really is an amazingly polished game.

That's true. I still enjoy those little harmless bugs and I don't mean to diminish the accomplishment of the original developers.
