Cracks in the "CoW" already!
novice Wrote:novice: heh
that's something i suppose
it's your turn to play the innocent "we had no choice" role
although kyan has said you instigated it
me: didn't i say i wasn't going to play that role?
novice: or maybe i forget
i did kinda glaze over
oh not or
me: interesting that kyan said that we started it. unless maybe you're just trying to spin-talk instead of straight-talk :-)
novice: hardly
"Kyan: basically, Rego had messaged both StM and krill, both of whom contacted me and told me that they wanted to do something about your GNP"
Kyan selling us out already. I don't remember it exactly going down like that but whatever.

So here's part two of "Operation Defog Trade Routes"
This is up on mackoti island.
I moved 1W on to the tile in the picture and not on to the hill tile 1N of my current position, because I'd prefer that Shoot not know I have a presence on this island.
I BELIEVE that I can see his borders, but he can't see my axe. Reason is that on land, you can see 2 tiles over water, but water tiles can only see 1 tile over water (pre-Optics).
Calling Dr. T-Hawk! Is that right? I tried to search for the rules but couldn't find them. Plus if you post in here, then you get a city named after you

I do believe you are right. Note that if the tile 1N or 1NW from his water tile is a hill with a sentry unit on it, that unit could see your axe.

It's awfully early for sentry units, though. He'd likely need a Stabled Chariot to do so (barbs are off, correct?).
And, tbh, is it really THAT bad if he sees one unit roaming about?
However, http://fastmoves.wordpress.com/2009/11/0...ltiplayer/ seems to suggest that we can been seen by their sea tile.

That makes sense. I am pretty sure vision rules are symmetric.

Actually now I think the axe can be seen. A water tile (boat unit or culturally owned) can see a land tile _past_ a water tile even before Optics.

Okay you guys made me mad with all your conflicting opinions and jibber jabber, so I WB'd a test.
Yes I believe he can see us.
To answer Cyneheard's question. No, it's not the end of the world if he sees a unit. The thing is though, the longer we go with him not knowing we're in a competition for this island, the better.
I plan on doing a bit more detailed analysis on land count, but having now seen snaky continents with ice / marble on them both to our south (between us and Kyan) and one in the north (mackoti island), it makes me think there is one for every player. Kyan said we could have the one between us and him, and if we can ALSO get this one, that would be huge.
Now, we've already got a city on the island and have had one for 10-20 turns. So it's going to be hard for Shoot to contest that (at least without some military action). So that's why it's not THAT bad. Still, I'd feel a bit better if we got a city planted over this way.

Shoot sent me an email because sometimes Gmail messes up the save. He also mentioned that nospace is harassing him with galleys and triremes.
I also wanted to check with him about Mackoti Island

Attached again. So far we have not seen any rogue Indian units but we're on the lookout. I did want to check with you on your plans regarding "Mackoti Island". My lookout axe saw your galley last turn, so I didn't know if you were just patrolling versus the pirates or sending anything to that island. We do have a city (Mackoti) that has been there for quite awhile and it had been in our plan to settle a city to the NW of Mackoti (near where our axe is).
I'm not trying to rule by fiat here, after all, we are war allies! :-)
So I thought it was probably worth discussing things before either of us found ourselves in an awkward situation

Email to Kyan
Quote:I just wanted to confirm what we agreed on yesterday.
* NAP between our two nations, starting on T67 and lasting for 25 turns, up to but not including T92.
* After that, 5 turn cooldown notice. So either team could give notice on T87 or any time thereafter
* Non-binding, but it is both of our intention to re-negotiate and extend the NAP.
* Standard clauses including disallowing gifting units to a 3rd party to attack as well as ROP for enemy units.
Also,
* Netherlands agrees to not settle on the rice island between our two nations
* Inca agrees to not settle a city that would interfere with the BFC of the proposed Dutch city 3SW of the rice tile.
Anything else?

So with Kyan and novice apparently already having MC, I thought it was worth it to make sure we nailed this guy.
I mean I didn't think anyone would try to go for it, since they'd assume we were doing it, but I've been burned before...
We founded the city of SevenSpirits between Zakalwe and Pindicator, and we're set up to found T-hawk next turn on the banana
Do we send the workboat to net the closer fish (finished one turn sooner) or the one that is "safer". Meaning that if/when Kyan settles on his sugar we could lose the SE fish (it's in both of our first ring, whereas the western fish is in nobody else's first ring). Thoughts?
Here's a screenshot of the northern part of Mackoti Island - I will send shoot a cropped out version of it as part of our negotiations
