You don't want to read into this because it's too good to be true. I think that we can safely say that that's a choke. THANK YOU BACCUS! lol

Retep's peak food looks to be 16F and the plateau before that was 11F. So that step 1 drop appears to mean that someone sat on his 6F corn/pigs and he had to work a 1F2H forest instead. Then he dropped down to 8F while planting his second city? Just no way that Retep is choosing to bypass half of his empire's food just to get Mfg that matches ours.

Ok, I was really nervous of endorsing this 1E marble plant because losing the ability to defensively fork our 2 cities against our #1 security risk is a very big thing. But Retep targetting us over Baccus seems less likely given the choke and our new Baccus location guess.
Retep's ability to successfully harm us 30T from now will also drop if this choke can last a few more turns. That's a pretty huge food setback and he's still not likely to be putting hammers into anything that could hurt us.

Also, Ichabod looks pretty unlikely to beeline that gold site given that awesome commerce site that he has closer.

So,...the Oracle. What about Aesthetics? Pursue Literature next,... GLib + shrine pulls our economy out of the toilet after we rex to 10 cities? Heroic Epic in our West of Capital production city. National Epic in our north-of-capital, double-seafood city. Parthenon if we can afford it. Status of Zeus in our Heroic Epic city,....go on a HA rampage.

We'll need Writing before we land the Oracle and I really want us to get Animal Husbandry and discover our horses on that riverside plains tile. smile I'd want writing for Open borders with Retep so that we can keep an eye on him.

The misunderstandings in the IT thread are kind of funny with our perspective: Retep has to play after Bacchus because of a war turn split. Bacchus accidentally stayed logged in for 7 hours and didn't end his turn. Everyone assumes that the reasons Retep can't play are IT and connection related, and presumably neither want to let it be known there's a choke war.

Well its nice to have further evidence that this choke is real.

From the graphs:

T35 16F + 6P = 22FH
T36: 11F + 5P = 16FH
T37: 8F + 11P = 19FH --> Built Warrior

Can you see if Retep whipped on T35/T36? Just wondering if this is an effective choke or if he just whipped his pop down. Double-pop whip could explain the food drop.

Also, could you confirm that whip/chops do not show up in the production numbers?

Civstats says they have never whipped, or there would be a score decrease somewhere.

Whips and chops definitely don't show up in the production graphs and demos. (There would be spikes everywhere with +20 and +30 if they did show up.)

Thanks. Never really ask myself these kind of questions in SP.

Wait I just can't read! Retep did whip something but it was a while before T35, around T32 I think.

Right, but that looks like he whipped out a settler at that point.

T33 (2680 BC): Score decrease, no power --> Whipped Settler
T34 (2640 BC): 11F + 5P
T35 (2600BC): 16F + 6P = 22 FH --> Grew back onto grass hills pigs (+5F+1H) or something?
T36 (2560 BC): 11F + 5P = 16 FH --> Choke on corn/pigs?
T37 (2520 BC): 8F + 11P = 19 FH --> 2K power= Warrior + Score increase (Planted 2nd city).

JUST EDITED.

This turn was pretty uneventful, going through builder motions.

I think we will be able to see Retep's capital tile next turn by moving the quechua SW.

An archer finishes next turn, then we quickly chop out another worker and settler. I think the best place for the archer now is fortified in Barber.
