I don't understand why he would go such balls to the wall, instead of waiting for cataphracts. why not wait to take advantage of your unique unit to crash your economy for war? I'm confused by his play.
how long has he been at war w/ hydra? If he's primarily catapults and has overwhelming force, he may be taking his time to bombard defenses and get collateral, to avoid casualties.
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

Only four turns - but I've been checking the fog and he doesn't even have a border with Hydra. My guess is he got so far ahead of the rest of us he thought he could just roll over us now... which he probably can!
Wish I hadn't gone for calendar...

Turn 75 - the year 1 AD
No change on the "what is Serdoa up to" front, paranoia meter is still soaring, but Construction is in, and at the end of next turn I'll have four of my ten catapults. After that I'll be stacking whip unhappy for the further six cats. I just can't see any Serdoan units here:
And that's the only place the yellow and grey borders even get close:
I think I need to get a medic unit, which I think I can only do by teching horseback riding, building a stable and then a chariot. I've been running some tests though and horse archers only flank away cats when they win, so if there are enough spears coming at them they're useless. I'm tempted not to bother with HBR and just concentrate on cats and Axes and upping my power to a level where Serdoa will send his stack against someone else.
I've shelved the MOM, hoping that it'll delay any attack, and am putting the chops into cats.

Ah balls.
Ah balls v2.
So that's 15 axes, 3 spears, 3 chariots and 11 catapults. Followed by another axe/chariot pair, 5 more axes with an accompanying chariot and a spear.
Ah balls.
On the bright side I have at least killed his accompanying chariot...
Make a stand at Exeter or offer peace in return for cities? He's got a galley or two with at least two axes that will swoop on Halifax soon...
Just for the record, I had 11 cities before Ipswich was razed (that's the most!) and would have put together enough of an army to at least attempt a defence if Serdoa hadn't fooled me with the phony war... There's no doubt I played this with a single player mentality, and in spite of constant paranoia didn't actually do anything about said paranoia. At least I'm going to produce a lot of units next turn. Too late?
So here is the power:

If you mean all those catapult builds finishing, you're producing them this turn. They appear at end of turn and would be available for defense during other people's turns.

Yeah, they're ready to move next turn, but most aren't getting to Exeter in time to hit his stack or defend...

That sucks But the next goal is clear: Kick Serdoa out of your borders! Give him hell! What kind of defenses could you get into Exeter in time?

About ten units, two or three of which will be cats, but I'll have another five or so hanging around just outside, who won't make it there in time unless he spends a turn catting down the cultural defences. I'll give a better number when I log in later.

Turn 77
By the time that the stack of doom is able to attack Exeter I can have
4 archers
3 axes
2 spears
2 warriors (upgradable - I have money to make one of them an axe or a spear. Any votes?)
in the city
with two cats to hit the stack on the hill north west of exeter.
If he takes a turn to bomb down the defenses I'll have an additional
1 axe
1 spear
1 archer
2 cats (both able to take a pot-shot)
arriving. Is he likely to give me that chance? 40% defenses aren't bad...
I haven't simmed out what the likely outcome is, but I assume it's bad.
There are also these two galleys, with possibly 3 axes on that can attack Halifax (1 axe to defend) next turn. The pleasing thing will be that I'll have a chariot ready to kill the landing axe... (I'm assuming he'll only want to land one and will burn the city, if not I'll come up with another unit from somewhere)
Is this taking the piss? I do hope so...
Power
Demos - I've now got about half the power of Serdoa's stack. Why couldn't he wait a couple more turns, make this a fair fight?

Oh the humanity! Serdoa must have deleted the axe to avoid giving me some xp. Which is just rude. I'm pretty sure his galleys are empty now. Which doesn't really help does it?
So this shows the battleground around Exeter. Essentially Exeter has fallen, it's just a question of whether it falls this turn or next. If Serdoa bombs the defenses down this turn he'll have to take it next turn. If he just suicides with the catapults he'll be able to take it without losing many axes at all.
So the question is - do I leave as many units in the city as possible or take them out and stop him coming after my other cities?
Tbh at this point I don't see him coming after my other cities as a big problem - I expect he'll suicide most of his catapults this turn, making further cities harder to crack. So one big heroicstupid stand it is then...
Power - If only I'd done this five turns ago...
