Turn 188, Part 1

Scooter did the war parts and got all the pretty pictures there. I adjusted builds (Drydocks everywhere, queuing units about to finish to get ready for the Theocracy switch), and then this morning took a look at the tech picture.

I don't have views on suttree's old lands, but this should show you why both of us wanted a piece of Black Sword's island. If mackoti had let us take the entire island, we could hit his mainland, and if we let mackoti take the island then he is just two tiles away from our mainland. Honestly, this is probably the best possible split for a lasting peace between us, but who knows if mackoti wants that. With the way he's teching, he probably does.

Lurkers, we need your help!!! This island and its cities need names!!!

[Image: pb13%20-%20turn188%20-%20blacksword%20island2.jpg]

Mackoti has his forces arrayed like so. (And this turn he hasn't finished yet, but he's moved the Ship of the Line up by Expos back towards his lands.) It looks defensive to me, although the 4 galleons could be fully loaded and hiding as many as 12 units.

I dunno scooter, maybe we can go after Bigger now. I'm not sure Mackoti wants a piece of us.

I did offer Old Tourist a map trade, and when I was offering that I saw something else:

[Image: pb13%20-%20turn188%20-%20OldTourist.JPG]

I wonder if this is worth it - it sends mackoti a message that if he declares on one of us then he declares on both. But we can't offer it and declare on Bigger at the same time. Anyway, it's an option.

Speaking of Bigger, I found out why he hasn't been making gains lately. And it gives us an opportunity, if we decide to go after Bigger:

[Image: pb13%20-%20turn188%20-%20battlefield.jpg]

Half of Bigger's army (or maybe 1/3, I didn't look to the east) is in the port city of Clara. If we hit that on the first turn with 15 grens then I feel a lot better about our prospects for the war. We could even give Clara back to Azza and make him feel like we're fighting this war for his benefit -- at least as a thank you for those triremes earlier. We then take Bigger's lands and let Azza recapture his old lands.

I know I was all about defending against mackoti last night, but seeing his deployments in game has made think he's not about to attack us, that he just wants to tech away.

Anything else that people want to see?

Tech Update

Tech spreadsheet link

Per Noble's request, I've updated the tech sheet from however many turns ago it was we did it last. Probably 6 turns ago or so. Aside from one team, we're looking pretty good.

Pindicooter: Steel
Bacchus: Banking, Paper
Azza:
WilliamLP: Theology, Gunpowder
Old Tourist: Optics
Commodore: Astronomy
Ichabod: Nationalism
Plako: Astronomy, Chemistry (Currently teching Steel)
Dtay: Compass, Optics, Chemistry (Currently teching Steel)
mackoti: Steel, Constitution, Corporation, Military Tradition (Currently teching Liberalism)
Bigwyn:

In order of Total Beakers:

1. Mackoti: 73,397
2. Pindicooter: 53,062
3. Dtay: 50,018
4. Commodore: 45,978
5. Plako: 45,735
6. Old Tourist: 38,651
7. Ichabod: 30,666
8. Bigwyn: 24,647
9. WilliamLP: 21,427
10. Azza: 16,436
11. Bacchus: 15,342

I want mackoti's hax

But scooter, this raises a second possible tech path. I know right now we're planning on waiting for Theology to finish, then swapping to Theocracy and pumping units. But right now is probably our last window to get the first-to bonuses of Communism and/or Physics. Mackoti is going for Liberalism now, and I bet he's heading for Communism next. So realistically, Physics is the one we'd have to go for.

So two ideas: 1 is using the Golden Age to tech away for Physics. #2 is attacking Bigger, hitting Clara out of the fog with our grenadiers, and liberating the city back to Azza to hopefully keep him in the war on our side.

Turn 188

Started out by getting ourselves another promotion!

TBS leaving boats for us to kill has been unusually valuable here. On to the stuff you care about. So this was weird:

You combat mechanics gurus wanna solve this? We started out the turn, and the CG2 longbow was top defender over the multiple CG2 Muskets. This Grenadier has CR2 but no pinch. This makes no sense whatsoever. The city is NOT on a hill, the musket would get better odds here. Whatever, on we go!

cr2 Gren vs cg2 longbow(??) 87% - FLAWLESS win

YES. About time we got a flawless win. So here's proof of the bugginess. We're using another Gren with identical promotions, and it gets a worse odds attack on a CG2 Musket:

Weird right? Even more weird was the result:

cr2 Gren vs cg2 musket (??) 76% - FLAWLESS win

WHAT WHAT. Two in a row? Why do these awesome runs of luck always happen during the mop-up phase lol. Next:

Yep, another musket that clearly was stronger than the longbow.

cr1 gren vs cg2 musket 69% - WIN (7.7h)

Oh snap. We're winning all of these aren't we.

pinch knight vs cg2 musket 64% - WIN (6.2h)

Yes we are. Pindicator's favorite Grenadier gets in on the action:

leadership gren vs wounded c2 mace 99% - WIN

And TBS is no more!

That's the second civilization that we got the finishing blow on, tying us with mackoti (who picked up the final kill on suttree on the same exact turn). Yep, suttree outlived TBS by a turn split lol.

Anyway, we settled another city too:

That's about it.

Oh don't worry, we also have Flames, Nordiques, and Jets (yes I was thinking Winnipeg, not New York when I named it). Those cities were all picked because we were picking franchises that have moved around since they were captures. Unfortunately we're doing way too much capturing for that plan to be sustainable, so I may throw a few random hockey teams on there. Good problems hammer. Got a favorite team that you'd like to see their name on a city?

Nice avatar!

How could that ever be unfortunate hammer

I'd love to see the Leafs somewhere (the avatar gives it away). You could use the Whalers, Golden Seals, North Stars, Rockies and Barons for some more defunct teams too.

Great thread, I don't know if I've posted saying so ITT

No way! I love the choice and hope that unit ends up with 50xp and carries the team to victory!
