You don't lose any units if it's the first time you've ever gone into strike. Then you start to lose one unit and increasing numbers of units, if I remember correctly. Which means you aren't going to lose your army all at once.
Also you can revolt civics to trigger anarchy if you want to delay striking by a turn. And religion / no religion for that matter.

Luckily, nane is helping me with my budget by killing my units.
He can't kill me next turn, although he's getting closer. I don't know what he does. I just want to live long enough to see the power dip.

Nane waited a turn to heal up his units, but I needed to relieve some financial pressure, so...
Here's the before:
And the after:
Well, that attack is stopped dead. He'll need to bring up more catapults to crack the capital now. Elephants are still very annoying and I had to give up my garrison's fortification bonus, but perhaps now Ziankali gets to eat me instead.
I attached the Great General and turned on auto-promote. We'll see what happens.

Go down swinging. I like it.
Also, still stitching together screenshots is admirable and appreciated.

Over at Civforum, Civac wondered if I dragged nane into the abyss with me. ...maybe:
While nane was battling it out with me, Holland, who had been pretty quiet all game, captured one of nane's core cities. This could perhaps be pretty bad for nane...
Ziankali took a city that nane had taken from me and then made peace with him. I need to keep enough units in my capital to discourage him attacking, but I'm trying to retake my cities as nane retreats the few survivors of his invasion.
Interesting times... (Didn't stitch the screenshots this time. but I'll be less lazy if Ziankali declares war.)

One of the cities I've circled was the one Holland took earlier. SV burned an empty city nane had near me. I could have taken it back, but I'm not faulting his enthusiasm. The two cities were taken with marines, so I don't know how serious this is, but I'm very excited. Now we just need Plemo to come in from the East.
I've given nane a complicated decision.
I've taken back a city, which has regained cultural control on all the roads he was using to retreat. Now, he can retake the city and raze it, but that probably costs him 2 units and delays 3 others. Interesting choice.
Because I am merciful, I've given him a way out:
But I need a resolution to this nane thing. Ziankali is starting to worry me:

Well, Ziankali now invades. This time I'm pretty sure I'm dead.
Well, we knew it was going to happen since turn six. Just took 200 turns to get there.
