Right - the hope would be to get Woody 2 to be able to scout faster.

Woodsman also helps when Archers show up.
That's really nice news on the Deer, was it by any chance forested? It sounds like both Deer and Crab can be claimed pre border pop too . Since we have Hunting and Fishing what say we look to settle west instead of east? I love it when I can build a workboat from the capital and get a second city up that much faster! The wounded Lion is also interesting; someone lost a Warrior, which is fairly important this point in the game.
I can't run any game level sims until Sunday or Monday (in the airport on my way back now) but if someone could post a screenshot I should be able to do a credible job with .xls.

Okay - T31 played. And not only is it forested deer, it is GRASSLAND forested deer. That's a 5/1/0 tile when camped - quite solid!
We can get the deer and crabs without a border expansion, but not if we want to stay on the river. If we have thoughts on going for TGLight, we would want to keep our cities closer together (for more cities).
Also, no religions have yet been founded. If they still are out there in 10 turns when we finish BW, we may have to take a serious look at one of them.
Thoughts on scouting? (our warriors are in red circles, and the worker is camping the fur in the blue square). My thoughts would be that in the west we need to continue hugging the coast - that fertile river valley looks awful attractive, and in the east I think straight SE towards the head of the eastern river. I promoted Spiros to Woody 1

Very nice . Settling on the west bank of the river is probably the correct spot. With Crab and a WB from the capital we can whip an Obelisk fairly quickly. There are five forests in the BFC, that's enough to go for tGL IMO, especially if we have Copper and decide to skip Animal Husbandry. We need an "Operation: GL" subthread .

I agree with the western Warrior, but for the eastern Warrior I'd kind of like to to expose the last fog from pink dot, just to be 100% sure switching city sites is a good idea. I'd also love to know if the water to the north is the Mediteranean Sea or the divide between two continents. We've got to be a bit careful, we are probably going to go Settler -> Workboat after our current Warrior finishes. I don't think the eastern Warrior should wander too far.

Actually you are right about the easter Warrior too, at least shorter term. He can move SEx3 followed by NEx3/4, then circle back.

OK - T32 played.
Big news is that we have some blue borders to the west. It's 3 tiles west of the western sheep. I moved NW last turn and will move SW next turn and we should meet. It appears to be Jowy (Pacal of Greece), and makes sense to settle west (towards him).
Another good thing about the site 1W of the river is that we can share the 3 hill tiles with the capital.

Another amusing thought I had, if it is indeed Pacal of Greece - is that we named our first city Athens
So how do we want to handle diplomacy? I am happy to kind of be the prime diplomat, posting my conversations / emails here in this thread. I think that diploming is probably one of my strengths, as opposed to actual Civ-game planning.
I can just use my email, but if you guys want to set up a separate gmail account I guess we could do that. The downside I have with that is that even if we set it up to forward to each of our own emails, it can be confusing to have to manage both accounts. So my preference would be to just have people contact me directly and I will post everything in this thread. But I'm open to suggestions

T33 played and as expected, we met Jowy / Yaz, Pacal of the Greece. Sent them off an introductory message
Quote:Well hello there!
Seems I was just talking to you (Yaz) about the other game earlier today and here you are over in this game too!
Spiros our wandering warrior has ran very far (26.2 miles to be exact!) to meet you. And how ironic that he runs into the Greeks, his countrymen!
I am assuming that it was your exploring scout / warrior that died to a lion a few tiles east of your borders. We came across the injured lion a few turns ago and not to worry, his death was avenged!
Since we don't have open borders, I guess Spiros will just wave and move on. Is there safe passage around your cultural influence? Any other advice on where we might find other civs, or other interesting terrain features?
Hope to hear from you soon!
I didn't want to tell them (at least not yet) how close we are, and that we haven't met anyone else. I will probably give them that information at some point, unless either of you feel like I shouldn't. Any other things you'd like to see in our communiques to them? Obviously, depending on who else is around and close, they are on the short list to get Cataphracted
In other news, we grew to size 4 and are working the settler at 12 food-hammers per turn, with no overflow from the warrior (who was named Thomas and fortified in Athens). So it will be done in 9 turns, and can be double whipped in 4.
We are the only size 4 city, and we are the #1 civ in both Food and Prod, with middling GNP (which should improve in 2 turns when our furs are camped).
We definitely need a new plan. The current one has served us well, but as we start changing things like where we are settling, that is going to affect things like how far we can send Spiros, where the worker goes after the furs, etc.

Mini demographic analysis on populations. Average population is 14750. There are 8 total rivals, so total worldwide population (minus us) is 118000. There are at least 4 size 3 cities (from F9) and the min is 1000.
So that's 85000 from those 5 civs, so the 3 remaining civs have a pop of 33000, which would be a 3 and 2 2s (21+6+6)
So us at size 4, 5 civs at size 3, 2 civs at size 2, and 1 civ at size 1. No 2nd cities

I'm certainly fine with you taking the point on the diplomacy front . Do we want to try and negotiate an early game NAP?
Funny enough I've been thinking we should settle 2W of the river recently. Reason is we are Expansive, and we get an extra river square to work, and we don't need an early border pop. Can you tell the exact location of Athens yet? It would be pretty aggressive/provocative to settle two cities in their direction to start the game.
Let me sim out settling both W of the river and 2W of the river, as well as whipping the Settler and not whipping the Settler.
