[SPOLERS] yuris125, Pitboss 71. The battle Warrior of Light is unlikely to win

Thank you! Not sure how much it counts for, think it's fair to say I survived through a combination of luck and land being so bad it wasn't worth killing me for, but I'll take it lol

I think we may need to discuss how much balancing we want in our random maps

A large part of my territory ended up being plains tiles which could never be made productive. CtH changes made it so that plains farms are at least somewhat viable, but my entire plains region was blocked off from irrigation, so even that wasn't an option. Should irrigation possibility be considered during map making?

How did Thoth end up with no horses? Looking at his map overviews, doesn't look like there was a horse resource which was supposed to be his?

The lack of horse was probably a mistake.

As for the rest, as was discussed in the lurker thread, if you sign up for a random map, you get a random map! Some psychopaths' want this (looking at you Pin  heart ), but it isn't for everyone. Part of the problem is good scripts that lead to some kind of vague everyone has 2 neighbor balance especially once you get past 4 players. When I rolled PB64 and PB69 this was the main thing I was trying to get. Lakes script is actually good for this, but it doesn't "look" natural and Commodore doesn't like it, so that leaves few other choices.

The actual harder thing is if you want a map that is say 90% edited. As has been discussed "what does that mean and to whom". 90% to one map maker might mean something entirely different to another. As I stated in tech thread, the % of random PB74 is is up to philosophical debate.

I never looked closesly at the strategics, so the horses were likely a mistake.

Agree that irrigation is something that should normally be considered, and when I craft maps it's something I actually look very closely at. For this map it was asked for minimum editing, so I didn't look too closely on such details, focusing more on overall shape.
Playing: PB74
Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)
Maps: PB60 - PB61 - PB63 - PB68 - PB70 - PB73 - PB76

yeah to be clear it's not a complaint about the map smile just questioning if it should be looked at on a random map. Don't think extending the river at my capital by a tile would've changed the random feel of the map, but it could've made a difference to how much I could get of the land

Impressive survival here, Yuri, you should feel good about this game. Pity the Superdeath murder-suicide RNG rolled your way, but you did well and outlasted him in the end.

I'm still trying to figure out how you survived. This feels like it was a total saved by the bell scenario: if the game had carried on I was going to invade at some point in the next 5 turns and I didn't see anything capable of stopping me rolling straight through in about 6 turns. Then Thoth had to back out because of Pindicator, and you manipulated SD into going for Thoth due to the copper.

I agree with Commodore, it is impressive and I think you played the best out of everyone. Yours was the one start I don't see how I could win from.

He survived in part because Pindicator attacked me with a Medieval doom stack the turn before I was going to invade Yuris with my Classical doom stack.

From where I sat, the Horse gift made the difference between survival and elimination for me. I didn't feel right about turning around and attacking Yuris after that so I left him alone so long as the Horse deal kept going.

I considered an attack to put him out of his misery but turns were being played promptly, cities were being settled and spoiler thread was being updated so I figured Yuris was still having fun.

Is that an anti-PYFT justification?

Not really.

It was more along the lines of "I'm still in this game because of Yuris so I'm not going to attack him if he's still having fun". Plus with Pindicator having demonstrated that I did not have a safe northern border, it was nice having a southern border that seemed secure with Yuris acting as a buffer against potential Krillian aggression.
