We're going to go ahead to go after the furs. It's a big reach, but the furs and increase to happy cap are going to be important. Need more pop for cottages. I'm a bit worried our tech will dive and slow currency. We are under 30% slider for breakeven
The island north of Gillie has whales which we'll want to settle after furs and I want the WB that explored that island to go East and explore the north of our peninsula.
We thought about sniping some of SD's workers, but he moved in time and the risk wasn't worth it at this time, so we're exploring:
SD's land is more shallow south than I thought. He doesn't have all that much expansion that I can see either. It just exacerbates the close capital issue. I don't blame him for wanting to expand up to our gold. It seems like a pretty natural extension for him.

Of course, if the map criticism is genuine and you guys don't want to play asymmetric next time I'm up for a mirrored game.
1. I agree that GKC should not respond to the criticism. Being a mapmaker is a lousy job. Nobody should volunteer for it.
This is why I try to stick up for map makers. I want to play maps.

I just gotta know is it based on a random map? Like is this a random generation or...?
Huh?

I've lost to better players than you and I've lost to worse players than you. I'm certainly not intimidated by you or any of them. When I say I don't want to play against someone in a game its because I don't like playing against them - sometimes its because their PYFT rating sucks, sometimes its because I don't trust them, sometimes its because I've played against them too many times and I just want some variety, sometimes its because I don't like their attitude. You know, when they do something like jump into my thread and start a fight over nothing that has anything to do with them, for example.
Genuinely not bravado here, I'd really like to play a mirrored game, but whenever I suggest it in setup threads it gets shot down. I guess I'll just have to propose it myself.
I'd love to play you Gaspar, albeit mostly for the vanity of reading your player preview after the game.

I don't know if Gaspar's player preview for a Spurs fan is going to be a good read for you.

Look I'm not fishing for information about the map. I was just very curious if that particular island was randomly generated or curated. I think that it was randomly generated but then modified but I'm not sure. Asymetrical maps are not perfectly balanced and I don't think they should be. Sometimes they favor you and sometimes they don't. Sometimes you're very happy and sometimes you bitch about some things. For the record I find Torture island to be frustrating, but also to be pretty funny. My comments about it are both my frustration and a bit of humor at the situation. Obviously we randomly got this start and there are things I think could be more balanced and better. I'm still hoping to take the position we have and maybe win. But I don't think I've bitched an inordinate amount. These threads are about our games and sometimes getting a bit of frustration out. But I was honestly not trying to get an advantage out of GKC. I think that insinuation is what gets Gaspar riled up most. We are a team.

I wasn't being altogether serious with the original comment - sorry if that came across more than I intended.

FWIW my theory on Lewwyn's Torture Island is that it was randomly generated but then GKC added the gold in without realizing what he was doing specifically with the resource positioning. I have a fairly good record on guessing these sorts of things.

Almost none of the islands were randomly generated, salt island included. Your start also had to be moved a fair bit up, since it was originally where Fopdoodle was.
BTW, It took a fair bit of work, about 30 drafts to get this map to Jowy's request of PB52-esque + islands.
You are correct, however, in that the original design for torture island had no gold, and then I realized your position should get an extra. There originally was supposed to be a food resource where you planted that new city. I then swapped it over to the tile where the sheep is.

Interesting. Obviously you're not going to dotmap the whole map so you don't see all the permutations. I don't blame you for that. Since we're playing it and going over every inch in for hours everyday, we see the details of everything a lot more intensely. If the sheep was switched from a plains to a grass to give more food I understand the intent, even if the end result was problematic. Thanks.

Guess who might be breaking back into this game again:
Lemme get those cottages ready... Also do we have another trick up our sleeve to get back into relevancy?
We met Gavagai:
We gave him gold for wines so next turn when we hook up island gold we'll get +1 happy cap boost. Poor commodore, Gav settled right up on his cap.
Looking at settling the fur island city on t94. That's going to be on a hill, we think. Also, kickass Moai city? Don't worry boyo I'll defend you.
I think settle on dyes with a settler out of Ragga in a couple turns. Then settle on the island south of this island to get the other fish. We have to go along the mainland coast through SD's culture to get there though, so its a bit aways yet.
SD has 7 cities, 1 is south on an island. He also has GLH guarded by a single warrior and an axe out here where he plans to settle his 8th city. We have room here to settle another double border city, but I think we wait a little bit yet.
Demos T89 and t90
Demos still look mediocre. Well I hope it changes in the next few turns. Luckily we're not far behind in tech. Civac has currency, but he's the only one. Gotta dogpile him. Or let other people do that while we quietly eat SD in a corner.
