RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

scooter Wrote:These belong in the lurker threads, not player threads. Stop trying to influence this game...

I likely crossed the line. However, I really have nothing more I would want to say to Plako and Dantski anyway unless Spulla gets taken down a notch. That has a very low chance of happening... I'll pre-post in this thread if the actually happens. I have nothing to say to Slaze that would not be spoilerish.

I talked back to the line in Plako's post about how it feels alright to settle for second place (this is reasonable if your postion is poor; Plako's is).

I also talked back to Dantski's line of doing what's best for your Civ which is big mistake. A player who asks "How can I win?" instead of "How can I make my Civ strong and feel good about it?" is more likely to win. There is some room for compromise but Dantski takes it WAAAY too far. This annoys me.

Dantski's concren in the second paragraph is wrong. This is because Spulla is saying that they will not play another game like this; so it does not matter what he does to them--next game wise.

It would be a BIG spoiler to even say you can not say why the second paragraph is wrong. Spulla not playing in another game is the only real answer so Dantski would guess it. shhh

So what do y'all think of Nakor's e-mail? Do you think other players will go for it?

Nakor - obviously voting yes

Spullla - probably voting no based on Sullla's reaction to PAL + the nebulous "Spirit of RB"

Plako - My guess is he'll vote yes, but only because he doesn't seem too interested in fighting KA and recognizes how strong their position is. Also, finishing out the game in what imo is a clear 3rd is not bad at all for someone who got rushed by agg praets early

Dantski - I don't think he has been into this game for some time now, so I could see him voting yes. He's borderline though, because he might want to push Nakor around a bit

slaze - this one is a really tough call imo. Slaze seems pretty hopeless about his chances to win the game, but would you really want to end it early if you just scraped out three tough wars against technologically superior opponents? I think he'll vote no.

So my guess for the vote is:
1 clear yes
1 clear no
2 borderline yes's
1 borderline no

And Spullla will write disdainful posts about how everyone's rolling over when the going gets tough

Spullla's superior civ skills and time put into the game had both good and bad sides: Their succesful fight against the CoW invasion was entertaining and fun, but on the other hand it killed the game. Had they not repelled the attack, the rest of the game would probably have been more entertaining.

On the other hand, what makes this game entertaining is not as much the game but the reporting. And Spullla's thread is simply epic in every sense of the word, whether you love them or hate them (or both at timeslol)

In fact that thread gets my vote, over any of the amazing things Sirian did, as the single most educational and entertaining body of Civ reporting anywhere.

It would be a bit of a shame, but I can understand where the sentiment is coming from.

Still, did Spullla walk away when they were under siege by 5 other Civs? Did Ploker give up after Whosit almost completely wiped them off of the main continent? Did slaze throw in the towel when Athlete backstabbed him with his own army?

RB spirit continues to shine strong. Never give up!

There's a lot more room to come back from on Turn 100 instead of Turn 240 or whenever it is, though. It's the difference between being down a pawn or a knight on move 10 in chess, versus on move 50 having to fight off a queen and a rook with just two pawns and a knight. Spullla has more tech, more cities, and more men than anyone else. A decapitation strike is nearly impossible, Speaker's too wary for that, and wouldn't deliver the game anyway. Burn Spullla's best three cities, and they're still well ahead of everyone else.

Well it looks like I was wrong about Spullla. Maybe this game will end after all.
