On aggressive - I think part of the problem is that the bonus is basically useless once catapults come into play. I'm thinking a buff might be to either give seige barrage 1... or give all melee units either medic 1 or march.

I disagree on that. The combat I bonus is not useless at later post-catapults stages of the game. Combat I is the one promotion you will give each and every melee unit at some point in time. That's because it's an important stepping stone to better promotions. Together with the cheaper barracks you are guaranteed a variety of promos you can choose for any situation.

I am having some technical difficulties with the mod.

1) I can't save changes to the BUG settings.  I've installed the mod to: C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Mods\ I can still modify the .ini files directly and change the settings that way, so this is not a huge deal.  But it may be related to the second issue.

2) I am getting this BUG error message on every turn:

This does not have any noticeable effects and the game seems to work OK, but given that I haven't played out a full game yet I can't say for sure that it doesn't matter.

3) The Buildings and Wonders screen on the 'pedia are blank for me when loading it from the main menu.  However, inside a game they load correctly.  I believe Gaspar also has this issue.

Because Buildings are not loading, the game will crash if I visit a Civilization entry and then try to hover over the UB.

Any ideas?  Is there a preferred location to install the mod?  Do I need to change some file permissions?  I am on Windows 10. Note that I have never used BUG before.

Just checking the common problems.

  1. Is there a CloseToHome_1.4 folder inside the CloseToHome_1.4? This sometimes happens when you unzip.
  2. Did you try starting with administrator rights? BUG trys to write those settings in-game, but for that it needs these rights. The regular way to do those BUG Settings is via the new BUG menu top left in-game.

Congratulations, you found a bug. I will fix that.

No CtH folder inside the CtH folder. I did not run the game as administrator nor do I have any desire to; I did see that suggested as a "solution" to settings saving problems, but if that's the case then changing the file permissions should work just as well. I'm not really concerned about saving the settings so much as the error every turn.

Ok, I can understand that. Could you try downloading the current 1.3.3 version and see if that BUG error message shows up there? I think this might be related to my new tracking tool, which was introduced with 1.4

I've also already found and fixed the bug concerning the civilopedia that you found. Thanks a lot for that.

Another thing that could cause this is your mod folder. Have you tried installing the mod here:

[C:\.. or where you installed the game]\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods

1) I fixed the issue with the settings saving by reinstalling 1.4 in the My Games location. I actually originally installed it in the game folder like you mentioned and then copied it over to My Games when I got the permissions issue, in the hopes that it would fix the issue. But it seems I needed to get fresh files for this to work because the permissions weren't fully changed when I copied the folder over.
2) I am still getting the error in 1.4 after the reinstall BUT I do not get any error in 1.3.3. So it could be an issue with your tracking tool as you mention. Note that the 1.4 version that I just reinstalled is your latest with the 'pedia fixed. Now that the error appears disentangled from the file permissions issue, the tracking tool is more likely. I also get an error on GameStart (with the error message mentioning GameStart rather than EndGameTurn).

I haven't released the civilopedia fix yet, but that issue is not related to the BUG error. Thanks for the informations. That should narrow things down to the tracking.
