[PB63 Spoilers] Mr. Cairo

Well, he's got at least four Triremes coming for me now. But, Cornflakes gave me a free 100 gold, and Ginger intimated that he'll be attacking MJMD in 6 turns. So I guess it's time to embrace the petty and stick around.

I hadn't heard until I saw this. frown Very sad.

In-game news I've attacked MJMD. It seems I caught him during his evacuation from his attack on Cornflakes? Not a lot of units visible and a bunch of galleys around the island he took off of Cornflakes. In any case CKNs are very good amphibious attackers, and island cities should never be built on flat land. I lost 2 CKNs attacking from the sea, killing 4 Vultures, a Spear, and 2 Catapults. Elsewhere on that island I killed 4 Cats from the sea, losing 2 CKNs (against the odds but what can you do). Locally at least I have more Triremes than he does, if he reacts by trying to get everything over to the island as fast as possible I might have the chance to kill some units in transit. I don't know how many Knights he has, but now seems the opportune time. Everyone else is busy with other wars and CKNs will start to lose their utility soon.

When I started the turn MJMD had sent me an offer, He would declare war on Ginger and I would declare war on everyone else. I'm assuming it means he thinks we need to band together against Ginger to stop him from winning, which might be true, but also, doesn't actually help me any. Cornflakes has a decent military and economy, he can fight Ginger well enough on his own. Also, when Ginger attacked Cornflakes, the latter gave me 300 gold, presumably a bribe to keep me from attacking Cornflaks as well. Which I was happy to accept, since I have no desire to compete with Ginger over any of Cornflakes' cities. But is also set a precedent, in my mind at least. Want me to not attack you when it's advantageous to me? Better make it worth my while.

Why do people insist on killing off harmless observers of their conflicts? Ginger wrecked our trade routes just to kill some Warriors and a Chariot I had in Cornflakes' land watching the fighting.

Details for any prospective replacement:

Not even close to a winning position, but still some opportunities for fun.
Fighting MJMD (again) over the island between our lands. We have something of a standoff, and unfortunately he got Caravels a turn or two before me, so right now those units are cut off. I also misplayed my last turn, not moving my stack up. but with my new job and continuing internet troubles I haven't been paying enough attention lately.

I have no idea how much longer this game will continue, and to be honest, considering where I'm at in this game, I can't imagine the other players will have any problems with even spoiled players taking over from me (unless you've been hanging out in MJMD's thread lately I suppose).

edit: I'll post pictures if anyone wants.

Mr. Cairo, it would be helpful for me if you could provide an overview of our civilization, but if you just want to move on from this game, then that is fine as well. I will know the situation of the Chinese Empire like the back of my hand soon enough anyway.

However, I do ask that you at least provide a quick summary of important information that can no longer be learned from looking around on the current turn and must now be remembered from earlier (ex., did Mjmd just move a stack out of our vision into the fog, what wars happened earlier and are now over, has someone taken the Great Artist from Music yet, etc.).

Also, do you mind if I start logging in as soon as I am able, or would you prefer that I wait a little while? Either way, I do not think I will be ready in time to play this current turn, so that one at least will still be up to you.

Login as soon as you like.

I'll be honest, I haven't been paying much attention to the game as you might like, and I have left you in a rather precarious position. There's a decent stack on the island, but it's now cut off thank to MJMD getting Caravels before me. I'm building them now, but still. My plan was to use that stack to take the last city on the island while I still can, he's reinforcing rapidly. He also has some units on the mainland that recently burned a border city of mine (it was just a whipping post so no great loss), but I think on the mainland I have enough to keep going.

Ginger is almost certainly going to win, he attacked Cornflakes after Cornflakes was attacked by both MJMD and SD (which is why I attacked MJMD when I did, it seemed like a good idea at the time cry ), and according to the graphs, Cornflakes just took a huge loss. Everyone else is pretty much fighting each other, so I don't think you have to worry about anyone else, except maybe SD? I think he just tried to attack Bing, but failed (after he tried and failed to attack Cornflakes), maybe he's decided not to fight again, but he might well attack us. If he does attack, then unfortunately your return to Civ will be somewhat short-lived. Same if Ginger decides to just bulldoze through Cornflakes and straight into us.

To be honest, I think your best bet might be to make peace with MJMD, offering the two island cities back (I think city gifts are allowed in peace deals). That preserves your power (which is respectable compared to everyone but Ginger), and then go from there. It's possible that if you take the last city on the island and build/upgrade enough Caravels you can secure it, but that would be a judgement call you'd have to make. Economically the civ isn't doing great. I fell behind early, and am still behind, which is what happens when you lose focus. Catching up in power and tech even as much as I did required some sacrifices. Long-term prospects are bleak. But then again, they're bleak for everyone except Ginger right now.

One of the changes in Close to Home (CtH) is a feature that shows how many of the civs you've met knows the techs that you can research.

IIRC you agreed to one city per peace deal.

Thanks. I am clueless about the new mod. What happened to RtR? lol Any important changes (or lack of changes, I guess) that I should know about that are not too much for a general lurker to point out to me?

More questions that occurred to me while looking around in-game: Have we had a golden age yet? Is there any friendly/unfriendly diplomacy with neighboring civilizations, other than the obvious war with Mjmd, that I should try to keep up? Where were the two eliminated civilizations located before their untimely demise?
