I was saving this song for the diplo game. I'm HOPING this city gets a religion eventually and will be a culturally bully in the alley.
So I'm going for pottery without fishing and next I'll do AH without hunting. What happened to normal Mjmd, who knows! I was going to settle next to stone, but I hate the idea of improving the floodplain first. Instead do 1 turn worker at 4 pop > whip granary I'll start in 2 turns > overflow worker. Then one more turn worker turn chop from worker improving corn which will finish it. Chopping worker can move onto sheep and new worker will chop forest for next settler to be two pop whipped. I forget settle turn, but its kind of late for me. I get an early granary and it flows well though.
New city has some pretty simple math because I finished roading this turn and don't start farming until next. It has 5 turns with no farm and then 2 with to grow, but it only needs 4 of the no farm turns. At size 2 it gets 7 foodhammers meaning 4x7=28 fh for a worker. Basically it just makes tons of sense to use the random extra turn of no farm to put a worker in. I like 1 pop whipping workers from my 2nd city. It can then chop the forest into a 1pop granary most likely.
Ok boring micro part over. Time for time honored map complaints! How did "we want contested borders" = multiple choke points? Charriu has two chokes and has only met two people. Ginger / GKC have only met me and also have a choke it looks like. For sake of sanity I'm assuming both of them then have long borders south SOMEWHERE with Bing? Which doesn't seem fair to Bing, but then again he seems so far from everyone that no one has even met him...... But even if they do have long borders with someone...... WHY IS SD SO CLOSE TO ME!!!!!! Even having moved he would have been stupid close. Now for diplo game I expected 3 neighbors, so that is in line (edit: do I have 4? with Bing south through Gems?), except WAIT A SECOND no one else appears to? Everyone else has two except maybe Charriu has 3, but you know hes not near anyone and has two chokes. Tarkeel just doesn't like his start and is thinking about asking for a restart on turn 50. Honestly I'm tempted NOW. Oh I've been assuming this isn't earth for all these complaints. If there are just continents and islands out there, that I don't know the player in the middle would be disadvantaged in getting and holding..... on top of you know the disadvantages of being in the middle........... than just shoot me now.
My horrible position is why of course I've started trying to warm Tarkeel up to the idea of a long term alliance.
Ginger is trying to hard sell me on city settling spot , but based on that he isn't trying to go past the choke and he is laying it on THICK, I'm thinking he may be pretty far away..... But again when you only have 1 or 2 directions to expand it probably doesn't matter. I couldn't get a city down that way until city 5 or 6 though, but even if I wanted to contest what I 'm guessing is a reach, do I have a choice?

We are having a discussion about restarting the game and Ginger made this comment
Quote:Ginger
Cuz all I see is water, I’m on an isthmus
And I just want to scream: "YES THAT IS PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!!" but because we don't know if we are restarting our not I don't want to give away how bad my position is by comparison.

I do have a 2nd horse! And I perfectly placed my city to miss both of them............. REALLY hope religion lands where I want.
Lets start map complaints again!!! Somehow has had REALLY high GNP for a while. I know thanks to a SD map that he didn't have his gold hooked until recently. Ginger recently went polytheism instead of meditation and between Tarkeel and I we figured out only SD that we know of has a gold, silver, or gem at capital EXCEPT neither of us knows Gingers capital. I'll get graphs soon, but to say I suspect this map is even more of a joke than it already is, um ya. Ginger also just doesn't appear to be near ANYONE (I got Bings full map and no one has actually seen his capital).
Meanwhile I'm over here at PB62 capital distances................ I'm also the closest neighbor of Charriu and likely Ginger.
Tarkeel and I had a debate on who got screwed the most. Sadly it might actually be SD. Not only does he have a long close border with me and will also have a medium length border with Tarkeel, and his land is horrible. His one redeemable feature is he can expand north into Bing relatively easily.
Anyways, I did a perfect 60/60 worker in capital last turn. I'll whip another worker this next turn. My 3rd city is SUPER late for me, but lot of that is due to granary whip, but also just worker movement.

Its very possible I should have settled this city 1st. If it wasn't for wanting to try to place religion in 2nd it should have been as it has very good food. My 2nd is still better than Bing and SDs 2nd though. Bing got attracted by far away clam, copper, and silver, which is fine, but not as a 2nd when he had a two food city right next to his capital to settle...... SD I'm suspicious is doing going to beat me to religion as that city is pretty garbage and you know he has a gold so he wins any tech race as I wasn't willing to delay granaries.
Speaking of luxury metal it sure looks like Ginger started with one without having to move. I'm seeing if Tarkeel can identify which.
Oh I declared war on Ginger this turn. My screenshot doesn't work after I use snip it, but I'll update next turn.
Edit : found screenshot of area. Plan is to camp warrior on jungle SE of copper. Halfway ASSUMING that his second city (which is the one there, you can tell form lack of thick 1st ring culture in game) is 3 tiles from his capital the dry rice is the midpoint.

I've been very bad at reporting any of my games atm. Playing 3 is just too much, but I woke up stupid early so sure lets run down some diplo. I know some of you are on the discord channel but for those who aren't / opponents after the game I'll summarize:
So as stated the whole Ginger saga started with this
Now there are a couple obvious bull*@&t alarms going off here. Language is too flowery. Also, the most obvious places for me to settle are the grassland hill and where their scout is south of the marble. If I'm not going to settle grassland hill I need a reason and they did not provide one other than "this is what we want". Also, its SUPER close to me, its not like I can't scout it, so SHOW THE AREA !!!. If you are going to try to extract a favorable split via subterfuge I would have sent something like the screenshot in bottom of my last post. You can claim its capital culture. There is a copper right there. And you address the obvious issue of borders by moving your city 1SE onto the forest. I may never scout down there to check that it is capital borders. In this scenario they pickup a wet rice and clam that shouldn't have been there's. BUT NOPE. They went for the whole thing
Anyways, they eventually relented after we obviously had a lot of back and forth discussion where I basically kept repeating what half was . I also pointed out they should expand towards Bing and the possibility of an Australia, which I don't know if they knew about to be fair to them. Now I'm not positive about it either, but Tarkeel and Charriu seem convinced its an earth map, so I'm at least in good faith here. I did try to check with Charriu about America's / Australia and all he was able to figure out / tell me was "probably something". I was of course specifically interested if Australia exists, but I'll give Charriu some more time to scout / maybe I'll provide him an area of map in trade for future fog gazing expertise. This scenario was pretty clear cut what half was. However, there is that land directly south of me. Is that supposed to be mine, theirs, or contested? If Ginger / GKC have an Australia to settle it is probably mine or contested. If they don't have an Australia its probably theirs. They don't seem too keen on sharing their maps (SD said he didn't receive even after sharing with them) so its a big question.
Another reason I haven't been reporting is obviously the map. Tarkeel seems to be warming up to it sadly and also there is just the practicality of actually getting a new map at this stage / replaying the first 50 turns. But let me be clear this map failed on every axis we requested. Space between players, lack of chokes / predefined areas, and multiple neighbors. Meanwhile I'm convinced no one even tile counted between players and wondered "should SD and Mjmd be 11 tiles from each other while everyone else has more room?" Or was it just to be funny? SHOCKINGLY I'm not laughing. Now this partially on us. While we said more room, we probably should have established a min tile between capital like was done after PB62, but mind the standard since then has been 12 and in my head when I hear "more room" I don't think 11.......

So one of my strengths as a player is I can bounce back pretty well and I then work on solutions. I fully meant go give a run down of what the map meant for diplo and various scenarios I see game advancing. I then logged in and moved my scout forward.
DID ANYONE REVIEW THIS MAP!!!!!!! STARTED WITH GOLD!!!!!!!! . Now if you are being lazy you might miss someone can move into a grassland pig gold spot. Not great, but map making is hard. But just giving someone a gold in their capital............ Meanwhile I'm over here with ivory and jungled gems.
T50 pic. Maybe I'll go over junk once my mood improves again.

You are the only player to not rename their civ yet. Boo!
That Henge spot looks rough though.

Why do you not go for the pig + floodplain city first?

Because I don't trust Ginger mainly. BTW he is going for his copper city now. As long as Ginger settles it where we agreed the pig city will be next. Probably on the floodplain sadly due to Stonehenge culture. The note to work forest over the oasis will get me to exactly 40 hammers into settler with overflow, so that city won't be long coming.
BTW at least with my no new food copper (again my choice ish) I can improve without having to found a city for it.
I was so mad last night I forgot to crop my photo of Gingers capital so now people know I'm going for religion (well not SD but he can't exactly be mad).

I was told I needed to rename my empire. ' mu ' means boat / ship in Sumerian. It also means seed, which just pure etymology speculation probably came first and then because early boats looked like seeds they got named the same. I obviously had to name my new city Roots and then promptly chop down all the forests.
Should the pig have been settled first. Maybe. But this will provide me a forward developed city just in case Ginger goes back on his word. It also will provide me a port to get to the island. Although, after I had stepped on the desert hill I worked out open borders with Charriu, so not as urgent. I'll also only need 1 worker for early development of itself and next city down there (although Roots will double whip a worker at 4 pop). I think pig city gets settled T59? so not a huge delay.
Anyways, T53 landed religion where I needed it to land. With settler in transit decided to convert right away. Will take that key hill tile to west and then also the plains tile NE 2nd ring. Basically meaning any attack has to be by 2 movers early. From Tarkeel I know SD didn't settle for copper. Let it be known I'm honoring my NAP and not hitting him with Vultures. Sure it would also have huge geopolitical considerations, but listen.
