Quick Update

Stonehenge still not built, my capital can hard build it in 3 turns with stone. Should be a lock but its pretty late so it could still be snagged but i can definately use the cash for research.

Quote:Hey Kyan,

A few turns had passed so I figured I'd send off a little keeping in touch email, with an update on my situation.

I've started exploring to my east and still have yet to run into the eastern border or contact with another civ. Have you had a chance to run into siefer's warrior?
I'm on track to land Stonehenge in a couple turns, and was considering grabbing Meditation for Buddhism. Would you be interested in a deal to swap religions in order to boost shrine income?

I've also started fleshing out the land between our civs a bit more, and when you get a chance I'd like to discuss how we plan to partition it out, I was thinking we might be able to make a little bit better use of the land if we had a more fluid border than just a straight line across. Would you be interesting in possibly dotmapping the land in order to maximise production for both our civs?

Lemme know,

Strike

Fired off a email to Kyan a couple days ago mainly just keeping in touch. Floated an idea that instead of just defing a do not settle past line, try dotmapping the land and then assigning cities to one civ or the other. That way we can get the best possible cities inbetween us. (Not to mention strengthening our alliance further which i don't mind at all.)

Couple problems here:

He's creative and I'm not. an even distribution of land over the long term will end up favoring him because he will steal tiles here and there. Now if a land henge that will help somewhat but its definately something I'll have to keep an eye on.

Question: How much difference does 1 culture make in a border war, is it enough for him to overpower my tiles in the shorter term?

Problem two as you may have noticed is that his land directly east of his cap is worse than the land west of mine. He's tried twice now to use it to push for the gold site. I do want to assist him but I'm worried with site and problem number one he;s going to end up with a significatnly larger chunk of land than me. I don't mind helping him out, but I don't want to shortchange myself neither.

Problem 3 is that in the event of a war between our civs, that border is going to be a total pain in the ass to defend. This works both ways though so im not sure how big of an issue it'll be. Definate advantage to the agressor if the unlikely situation (for now anyway) arose of our civs being at odds.

Creative is 2 culture per turn, so Henge would make you half creative until it expires.

Right,

What I'm curious about is if we both found cities near each other (say 4 tiles apart) how long it would take for his city to start eating my tiles. ( and whether have that 1 culture would make a significant difference.)

Your outernmost ring gets a tile culture per turn equal to your city's cultural output. For each ring outside the tile, the tile gets an extra 20 cpt.

So in a 1cpt city with 100 culture, (so it just expanded borders to its third ring), the third ring tiles get 1cpt, the 2nd ring tiles get 21 cpt, and the first ring tiles get 41 cpt.

What this means in practice is that the important thing is to expand borders first. Unless one city gets two rings "ahead" of the other city, they will typically share the tiles "evenly".

I'm sure there's an article on CFC that explains this more clearly and correctly. smile

EDIT: So to actually answer your question, no the 1cpt doesn't make a lot of difference as long as your city reaches 100 culture before the other city reaches 500.
EDIT2: Those numbers are for normal speed, on quick speed the third ring is reached at 50 culture and the fourth ring is reached at 250 culture.
I have to run.

Turn 35 Rolled and.......

Buggery cry

Its Jowy, and either he settled very aggresively or he's on my doorstep to begin with. With War Chariots. Crap.

I really didn't want to start next to jowy because of his warlike tendancies, but them's the cards. Well that throws a wrench in my plans. I was really hoping I didn't have to go full blown expansion but with an imperialistic civ that close I'm going to have to scramble for any land I can get. I'll open a conversation next turn after we've offically met in game and see how that goes.

Did get StoneHenge though!dance

Quote:Greetings Strike of China!

As of Turn 34 our warriors have bumped into one another which now opens the door to diplomacy between our people. While it appears there are civilisations between us that separate our lands, we look forward to peace and prosperity in the future we share together. If you would like to discuss NAP deals or anything else, please do not hesitate. Other than that, congratulations on finishing Stonehenge and all the best in the future!

Babylonian Empire

Looks like my northwest wandering Warrior has bumped into Seifer. Seifer is, from what i heard from Cull is in the north center position, opposite my own. Which leaves the last civ as Malakai in the Northeast spot.
