[NO PLAYERS]Map Thread[SPOILERS]

I fixed it... sorta. I changed the map dimensions to 36x35 and that made the problem go away. I vaguely remember reading on CFC that Civ needs map dimensions to be even or multiples of 4. 34x35 still showed the same problem but 36x35 came out clean.

(I duplicated the rightmost column of the map: in the file, I copied the entire section of plots where x=34 and changed them all to x=35. In the BeginMap section, changed grid width=36 and num plots written=1260. Also, strangely Civ wouldn't pick up those changes by loading a new worldbuilder scenario, even from the main menu. I had to quit Civ entirely to load it with the changes.)

Of course, that screws up the symmetry, you can't evenly divide 5 players into 36 tiles. The best solution might be to add one more column for each player, making the map 40 tiles wide and still evenly spaced. Not a small amount of work but might be worthwhile to have a nice clean map.

Thanks for trying T-hawk. I guess thats my fault as I forgot to put the map I started with (pre-generated pangaea) on toroidal. Those tiles were unpassable ice-tiles. I changed them and changed the setting in the worldbuilder-file and realized too late (when I started putting land tiles there instead of water) that there is a glitch.

But what I don't understand: I pre-generated another pangaea set to toroidal later when I tried to fix this. And I used the worldbuilder-file of that map, changed the necessary map-information and copied only the tile-information into it. And had the exact same issue.

Could it be that it is not even due to me forgetting setting the map to toroidal in the first place but due to the map size of 35x35?

Serdoa, we cross posted, look up. smile

I saw. Thanks for the help T-hawk smile I have now added a row of tiles to every single one of them (and thanks for search and replace feature!) and changed some tiles around to not have resources doubled now due to the copying. It should still be mirrored though.

Oh, and by doing that, the capitals of course drifted away from each other slightly. Makes for a better map I feel. smile

The wb-file: WB-File rev00d

If nobody finds anything more, I'll release it in around 4 hours.

Just one tweak I might make, move or delete the fish west of the capital. It can only be reached by settling on the horses, which isn't inherently bad, but feels un-fun and makes for cramped cities. (Before you expanded that sea, it could be reached from the other side of the water.) The natural fix would be to move the fish 1N, but that creates a very very strong city site with 2x fish, sheep, and horses, which is directly in the path between the capitals - very swingy to make a horse-based attack from that city to the next capital NW. I'd move that fish somewhere south or delete it entirely.

And again many thanks T-hawk. I corrected that by deleting the fish. I think the map is lush enough, even without that one fish lol Probably a little bit too lush even, but as everyone has the same land it shouldn't unbalance things.

I like this map by the way, quite interesting in its geometry.

I played a game on it when they started this PBEM, unfortunately I couldn't resist playing as Egypt and WC rushed both of my neighbors into oblivion before giving the map a proper play through. I did like the map, though. But I think I <3 lush maps too much.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon
