[SPOILER] Azure Moon

Charon joins the frey. And that's the last of our good city spots  eek

Charriu is using their EP on someone else, so they might not be our neighbor. Quite a journey for that scout if so.

First cottage is down! And another next turn, and a third one the turn after... Let's see how many we can get!

I'm pondering if I should switch to a scout after granary, just to fog bust against barbs. With a warrior I could upgrade it mid-build, but it would become a spear and not an axe unfortunately.

We are 3rd in land despite no third ring pop cap and two coastal cities planted. That makes me feel a little better about our lack of whipping. We can't be that far behind, can we?

Did some simming. Sailing needs to come after Mysticism and Fishing. Get those lighthouses up and coast tiles working.

Colossus would be nice, but with our production rates, and a forge pre-requirement, it's too expensive. Forget about that, at least for now.

Next city will probably be a "filler" city in the crab spot. We can even opt to send the "scouting" WB there instead to get them instantly hooked up. Will post a screenie later.

I guess it might be a good idea to get IW soon? A few iron pops would increase production and we could start clearing jungle.

We have a whopping 7 Calendar resources. All the dyes and silks would also give an instant extra gold with Fin. Sailing is a pre-req we'd have knocked out of the way already.

PSA to map makers, please don't put a resource 1S of the starting tile  tongue

Working 3 cottages. Let's hope that GNP gap is due to culture and known tech bonuses  scared

Well actually I'm losing gold due to no trade routes (that changes next turn!). But right now I get 0 GPT when I could get 3 GPT, and as PRO I could get 6 GPT. Only getting 1 GPT from FIN currently.

Someone actually founded Hinduism, one of the PRO civs I reckon, going for Temple of Artemis (+100% trade route yield).

Buddhism was also grabbed. Glad I didn't go for the Oracle plan, might have had competition.

Today I learned that overflow hammers interact unexpectedly with production bonus. 5 overflow became 3, making my idea to squeeze in a 1-turn Scout not work. I also opted to send the "scouting" work boat to settle crabs for my next city (coming soon!).

Look at this beautiful city, finally size 7!

I press enter and 3-pop whip a settler.

Gira made contact with us from the same direction Charriu came from. Another neighbor I'd gladly take! He's had the same idea I had about work boat scouting. Speaking of which:

Fraldarius was founded and that's where my work boat ended up at. A lot of good tiles for the city long term (8 non-shared riverside grasslands, 2 silks, 1 crab), but growth will be slow.

Weirdly enough, I think settling another backline city close to the capital after this is the right move. Normally land grabbing is a good idea, but is it worth it to rush to the jungle or the starvation zone? And even when you get past it, you'll be far from capital with high maintenance costs. I'll focus on best city sites, prioritizing economy. When we run out, we'll expand outwards through the craplands.

Still thinking about future city spots. We'll get to pop iron before fully committing.

Demos look good despite the size 5 cap.

We are 25 land tiles behind the leader. If we add second border pops to all cities, that number would be 13. If we add another pop in the capital, we'd be in the lead by 1.

City counts from PBSpy:
Superdeath 4
Charriu 4
Pindicator 4
Mjmd 5
AT 3
Mr. Cairo 4
Gira 4

Gotten via mid-turn score increases.

So it seems we are keeping up with the pack. Good. I was worried I might have forgotten how to play.

yikes

He has scouted our lands extensively, but should have no valid reason to attack us.
