Best for balance? I think before I would have said 3rd ring capital in a direction not that of any opponent - so in this case to our southeast. However, I don't play CRE enough to give it credit and so even 3rd ring is too close as you don't need to use a settler to claim it. So I would say to the east by the fish/crab location, 4th ring from capital. You could also put it far to the west in the vicinity of the incense, but I would only hope that is done if everybody gets their copper in a food-poor area.

Best for us right now? 2SE of the capital would be fantastic.

Plains mine finishes at the capital and now I really need to decide what i'm going to do next turn with the worker.




I think I mine the grass hill to the east.  Or I can mine the gold.  But the grass mine will definitely be something I will use at the capital, as I will likely be sharing a food tile with city 2.

My warrior is now on the pig.  I think I continue north with him to see where Superdeath puts his city.




Change of plan on the scouting as I moved scout2 first and immediately saw the bottleneck.  Now I want scout 2 to scout to the east and scout 1 will backtrack to the connecting lands and then circle around Cornflakes clockwise.  The more we uncover the more clear it is that we are not the most likely target based on geography:  Fabled is a closer visit than us.  Travel time for a chariot moving from Cornflakes capital is 9 turns to reach our capital (note to self: double check that, it might be 8).

JackRB shows up and is likely our southeast neighbor.  This is what I'd now like scout2 to find out.

Interesting development. I agree that we are a really poor rush target and I'm not that concerned now. Still think copper with city 2 is necessity and the more I see of the map the more I agree the only reasonably balanced place for it to be is in the south east, maybe we will find out by the end of the weekend if this is the reality.

It is 8 turns travel btw, but he ends up approaching from the west. The easy front city is on the plains tile 1SW of the hill, but there are so many ways to hold the chokepoint.

Fwiw, I'm toying with a triple whipped settler for the plains hill horse location after BW if copper is in the SE. Probably a stupid idea.

You back at work now Pin? And I was wondering, is that a 34 inch widescreen monitor you're rocking?

Still working from home. They pushed back the return to office to February after Omicron, but even after that I'll be working from home a couple days a week.

And no widescreen for me, just my Asus laptop. I don't know if I'll buy a desktop again, I don't care about having the latest and greatest as much as when I was younger. Though it was fun building by own back when I put the time into that.

Ah, that explains the width of the screenshots you been posting. I was hopeful that you were going to post a full map stitch when we had BW. I love me a big map stitch. I haven't rebuilt my desktop since 2012, but I've spent more money on the desk, chair, peripherals and monitors for work than I ever did on the PC.

So you have any plans for your dog (I must apologise as I can't recall her name now), of you return to work a few days a week? I've got two cats and they will just lounge around doing cat things if I ever go back to the office. I doubt I'm made to go back now.

Right now the plan is to keep Colt home by himself. He largely lounges in the living room while I work in the back bedrooms anyway. I think it will be all right, I've left him alone for up to 8 hours before without incident.

Definitely can do a panorama when BW is finished. I was just thinking about when to do a big picture stitch and that seems as good a time as any

The revised scouting means there is now an awkward 2-tile blob that I may not scout out:




It appears these are both plains forest tiles, so unless there's a fur or ivory sitting on either one it may be safe to skip and scout out later.

Capital is now size 6 and settler started.
