It appears that the first person to settle on all teams got two ES, while the second person got one. I would have expected everyone to start with two ES on a SIP, one for meeting your teammate and another for settling next to an (ostensibly) floodable tile. Are those floodplains next to the capitals not legit, or only legit for Portugal and not Japan? You should be able to check floodability via the settler lens. Or is there an ES source I'm not thinking of that would only trigger for the first person to settle in this configuration?

gosh, i hope that floodplain is not legit. would hate for the capital's HS to get randomly flooded out throughout the whole game...
lol i think i already made a pretty huge mistake w the SW scouting move, which took my warrior AWAY from both the HS tile AND probably the second city if we can't find fresh water down there frustrating. but i don't think i can turn around now, gotta check the magical 7 tile radius around hakuho for barb camps. if barbs come out of the north immediately i may swap to sailing though, since i doubt i can keep the HS up long if that's the case

ok, i hereby pledge to chill the f u c k out and not panic over a t1 scouting mistake

hey @TheArchduke, I have been wondering if maybe you should try to get some boats out before the campus, right after the second city settler. We are going to get Foreign Trade really fast and you should be among the first in the world to them, and can start hunting for city-states to eat immediately. I'd hate for us to lose races to nearby CS to Chevalier or thrawn due to delaying boats too much and if you do find CS to eat it should more than make up for the slowdown on the campus in terms of economic and snowball impact. I am also still considering trying to do so myself before the holy site, though it would delay both the religion and pantheon :/

I agree that Portugal should be getting a few boats out ASAP before tackling the campus. Japan really should get that Holy Site down though, the religion stuff is much more explicitly time sensitive than Portuguese science.

Turn 2, part 1 lol
here is where i moved our warriors, btw:
That plains hill 2E of your warrior looks like a fine city site as well. On balance, I might favor moving your proposed second city 1E across the river so it doesn't kill a Feitoria site, BUT that would push this candidate third city off fresh water. It honestly could work as the second city too, it would have a slightly slower start with no 5-yield bananas and a more exposed trade route path, but it does have the crucial one tile of coastal access for longship defense. I am also liking the shape of your land as far as barbs are concerned, we have already confirmed that the camp is not to the north of your capital, and a few turns' march east will do the same in that direction.
my land, on the other hand...
i guess i didn't think about this, but Portugal also has a great bonus against barbs in the early game with the extra vision. hopefully this means our monument openings will go off safely after all.

Where is the barbarian that caused that notification?

oh, that notification is from BBS 2.1.2, and indicates that 2 players started within 6 tiles of each other. No barb sightings yet, thank goodness. I'm kind of hoping against hope that some of our camps might have spawned on offshore islands, it doesn't look like we have a ton of land on our islands at a 7-tile distance from the capitals...

also, looked it up and the floodplain at my capital is NOT legit, according to settler view. that's...a weird thing to be true, but i'm pretty thankful for it as a midgame flood on a Feed the World shrine + temple would be a nightmare. that is, assuming it doesn't turn out to be floodplain horses that i end up paving over LMAO

I notice the victory condition rankings on the spreadsheet are not being filled out. Is this an oversight, or an intentional omission because this part is likely especially obnoxious (which it is, I'm wondering about ways to make it better)?
These rankings are useful for, among other things:
- Estimating milpower of unmet rivals (VERY important, I think)
- Identifying early city state meetings
- Hinting at possible tech/civic boosts, especially in tandem with era score spikes.
