A somewhat unrelated question. CFCJester has just posted the following in a tech thread:

I'm certainly no expert in house rules you usually use but wouldn't this constitute a double-move? They are at war for all pratical purposes right now.

Yes, it would, and whilst I accept that Jester would not understand the problem as an SP player, Nakor really has no excuse. Double moves can start off in peace time.

Here are the PMs:
Krill:
Quote:If it would be helpful for me to explain anything Jester, you can post here, PM me privately, or email/chat with me at krill.krill@gmail.com
As an aside, I understand why you would be pissed off with scooter et al. Not many people would be pleased to see a stack of galleys to show up for first contact. I do wish you good luck in your game.
Krill
Jester:
Quote:Don't worry about it sport...you sexy motherfucker. I didn't understand your post earlier...I now know Scooter didn't want to double move us...which he can't in sequential turns. The thing about you Krill is that you are the definition of fair...don't ever change bro...it does you justice.
Krill:
Quote:The thing is...the thing is...because the game is set to simultaneous turns, the way we handled it in PB5 was that whoever played first in the turn logged in, played their turn with all of the unit moves and slaves etc, then ended turn to show that they were finished, so the next player could log in. This kept the game moving much quicker than any other pitboss game we've hosted here, and also made it easy to know that after that point no slaves drafts or unit moves would occur (and there was always civstats to keep people honest).
The ending turn thing obviously isn't 100% necessary, the turn will role naturally, but it slows the game down, and is generally just considered "bad form" (oh the horror, I know) because what it enables is the holding of the turn to log back in again, have a shufti and move stuff around. No one thinks that you'd do this on purpose, but because it's your first PB game no one is entirely sure you understand the house rules, and Nakor just went to bed.
So, what I'm really asking, is if you understand why you need to take the first part of the turn, are you OK with logging in to end turn (after you've done the rest of the moves for this turn, obviously), then scooter will deal with the rest of his stuff, end turn and leave you to play next turn first. scooter won't log in until after you end next turn, his only "need" is that he gets a decent chunk of the turn timer to deal with what you do. Obviously you are both teams of players so will need to discuss amongst yourselves, but I think you understand the need to not dawdle on the turn, although obviously this turn was always going to be unique.
Krill
Jester:
Quote:Long answer: I guess that means I make the decisions then (how convenient Nakor went to bed). Sure, I'll end turn once Commodore unpauses. I consider it "bad form" to fuck over another player when you are almost eliminated. Just my opinion though. However, I've already been drinking so don't know how much longer I'll be up. Also, this communication violates the no communication rule...I now know for sure that Scooter is going to attack (no big deal...not hard to figure out). What I am saying is the double move rule (with simultaneous turns) is counter-productive...not needed and really should be re-visited (Scooter already sent a PM where he said he was going to attack {war turns gives it away}). Obviously, that would be for the next PB but then again don't we want to improve the gameplay?
Short answer : Once Commodore unpauses, I'll end the turn.

That just makes my accomplishment even better[/ego]
Seriously, I think I overstepped the mark with the original post but I saw all hell breaking loose. Whilst I understand what Jester is saying about the no out of game contact, I don't think that the PB5 "ruleset" works at all unless the players understand how double moves work and why they need to play turns swiftly to keep to turn splits even during peace time. That's asking an awful lot, and I don't think every new player would be able to do what is necessary without the occasional PM as a heads up and guide, even if it does reveal additional info, so I wouldn't censure scooter for what he did.

As a team-dont-get-wasted member I pity your envy.
