But no, I didn't want us to be assholes. And this is the thanks we get from SD.

I'm not sure what I can add to the discussion other than to say that if SD or the lurkers at any point had suggested they felt like we were gaming the clock, all anyone had to do was say something to us. We're not Lord Parkin here, I'm not aware of any collective reputation we have for being dicks. Well, ok, Noble and I probably have a reputation of being dicks, but not of being unfair or rule-breakers. I can honestly say, we believe we are playing to the spirit of how these rules are supposed to work.
I personally feel it is a little spiteful to just let the turn roll on us, and it seems quite intentional to me. I suppose we could have asked for more time but the pauses/time adds have seemed to come without those requests prior to this. This, by the way, is why Pitboss sucks and I cannot believe anyone thinks simultaneous is a superior format to sequential. Every game I've lurked since I've come back has at least one ridiculous rules lawyering moment related to turn splits.

It will be interesting to see how PB57 turns out, where they will switch to sequential midway

Im not really sure since im pretty new.
But it seems a faster way of going. Its true there is some problems sometimes, but for example, this game started like 3 weeks after the PBEM and with 2 more people and it has already some more turns of advantage.
In regards to the turn timer, that is another thing which probably needs an explicit rule. I often see people pausing and adding time for players without being asked to do so, so I assumed that was just how we handled things. Obviously, that did not happen here, so it is not a hard and fast rule. Either you add time always or you only add time when asked, not you sometimes add time without anyone asking and you sometimes don't.

SD has pretty much added time for everyone without prompting, just not for us because he was intentionally screwing us over.

Simultaneous is definitely faster, which is why many people prefer it. It just creates loads of other issues, because Civ4 was designed to be played sequentially.
