Well to me it looks like you're encouraging the enemy of your enemy to put up more resistance, which is diplomacy.

You're right, but I really want to hack your account and swap west and east on your profile pic.
So do I:
A. Remove the names
B. Delete the offending units
C. Rename the units "why bother" and "all over soon" to balance the encouragement?

I would say that that doesn't really violate the spirit of the rules, but it definitely violates the letter. It wouldn't be something to make an issue of to other players, but name them back and just don't do it anymore to be on the safe side.
EDIT: Just name the units back to what they were or default or something. Nothing that's intended to convey a message of any sort.

Turn 130
Peace in our time! I'm a little disappointed I didn't ask for anything extra, but this will do...
Because Hydra's stack is on the move towards de_cbble (or possibly Darlington, but I've got easier targets if Hydra wanted to attack me...)
I'm going to switch to Representation now, then in five turns when I have Pacifism I'll revolt to caste/rep/pacifism and go on a great person spree. I plan to have the Parthenon and National Epic built by then. I have 98% odds for an engineer out of exeter soon, who I think I want to rush the Statue of liberty. Or maybe Oxford? There aren't many good wonders left in this game thanks to my poor tech rate. Maybe I'll just use him for a golden age or bulb something? I believe the return for keeping him on ice until a wonder comes up is poor?
I plan to level off for a little while. In the hope that the others will plummet...
ps. those horse archers now have boring names again...

I agree with noble.
Its a nice idea, and often tempting, but not really appropriate.

Yeah, when I thought about it I agreed with Noble too.
I did like the suggestion a while ago for a unit diplo system - where you can only send messages by naming and gifting a unit to another civilization. Means it is possible to arrange NAPs and attacks, but makes communication costly and increasingly slow the further away you are from a civ. Just like in real life.
Anyway I've got a turn to play.
