Wow, talk about illustrating some fundamental principles more blatantly than we've seen in a while:
- 2-movers are awesome out of proportion to their actual strength
- It's very hard to fight a limited war, because the enemy isn't likely to agree to quit when you want to quit
I suddenly feel like their 'suicidal plant' city is going to work out just fine for them, too...

PB39 is not bad so far, but we'll have to see if it can match PB18's ending.

So are Mackoti and Rusten both about to attack Aretas simultaneously?
(Side-note: can we get this image edited into an early post in this thread? I always have to hunt it down.)
We know Rusten is headed to Horse Archers with Aretas as a target, and we know from Naufragar's thread that Mackoti is spiking power right now, and Aretas is the obvious choice of a target. I think Mackoti might just get there first.

Seems like a really big turnaround from a few turns ago. Looks like they’re about to really knock OT4E down, and I don’t get the sense that they’re in trouble defensively either, especially since they have plans laid out for what they want everywhere, and as has been stated previously, it’s very hard to coordinate between multiple civs, so the likelihood of an actual 2v1 attacking together is low.

Ok, so I mostly agree that Rusten has bad second city options. But he's got one of the very best neighbor positions in the game! Both Aretas and superdeath have limited MP experience, hence unlikely to be all that good at tactics, and both have opened heavy military without using that military to slow their neighbors. Naufrager is at least not a supervet, and also appears to be playing fairly passively. Boldly is busy. It's true that Mackoti will have some influence over Rusten's game, but at least at first, more by stealing kills than by direct damage.
There's not really any spot on the map that I'd *want* to have, but Rusten is among the least-bad of them.

Yeah, Rusten seems to be missing forest for the trees here. He's not wrong about some of the imbalances, but that's par for the course for the amount of players, land, and the constraints provided by the players here. IMO neighbor luck is way more important than map balance in games like this, and he's got that in spades here. I agree that he's got one of the best starting locations in the game.
