In the recent pitboss games I have played, I only built one courthouse ... my game never lasts long enough to think about maintenance expenses. So happy to by-pass Zulu. That said, I need to build more spearman and the extra movement might just be the incentive I need.

Impis are pretty good and eventually you will get some Barracks. So it's not a bad choice.

With Victoria some horse-based UU may be an idea.

Sure ... I never really care about starting techs. There isn't much you can do early and you can pretty much always get the techs you need before you need them.

Go for the most expensive. Remember, we can build a Work Boat out of the gates ... we just can't net any seafood without fishing.
