Ok it's showtime.
First of all, I moved the warrior 1 East and the scout 2 South West and revealed:
Yay horsies! I think I know where I'm going tech wise early game. Given that I was tired, I forgot to pick a tech before ending the turn, though I don't think it matters all that much. If it does, well d'oh!
I decided that my original plan of settling one south on one of the cottons was still a go so I did so. I moved the worker 1 turn South West, put a turn into plantationing the other cotton and cancelled his actions, next turn onto the wheat. Another thing I forgot to do was civics.
In terms of build, I started on a warrior as the best utility build to start with EitB barbs.
For next turn revolt into City States, Nationhood and Agriculture. I'll go for Horseback Riding in the techs and then I'll see about nabbing a religion afterwards.
Shallow_thought if you're covering for me from Saturday 4th to Saturday 18th inclusive, you can either pm me your email or post it in the game thread. I'll leave the game password as the letter a for now. If you want saves let me know and I'll bang them on to you as I get them.

We're off - and I'm going to be up scarily soon.
Horses are good for the city plant. I'm a little surprised by City States to start with, but have so very little feel for non-default starting ages. It'll definitely pay off if we can spam settlers ...
My email is my rb user name at hotmail dot com. I'll also post in the main thread so that whoever is passing the save on can copy it to both of us.
Drop me at least one save at some point so I can test I can open it - it's just possible I might need to rename my mod folder or something.
How does the PBEM work at a technical level (I've only ever played PitBoss)? The save gets emailed to you/me and we open it , play and save it and pass it on? How do passwords figure into the process?
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore

Well I'll have to replay the first turn tonight, due to random seed being on. Will do the same.
In terms of PBEM, you'll get a save by email, drop it into the PBEM folder in the Beyond the Sword saves folder and open it from the PBEM screen in game. You'll be asked for the password and away you go.
For sending on, if you know your STMP server, you can set up in the alt+d options for the game to send it on, otherwise aurorarcher is next in line and his email is rbaurorarcher@ &c. I'll send on the starting save to you in a few minutes.

Shallow thought, is your email with or without the underscore? Tried sending on the save and it bounced.

With. Should be literally my RB username and the domain.

I played the game earlier tonight. The only things I did differently were to revolt my civics & pick HBR for research.

Thinking on the two weeks, as it's so early in the game, I'm not going to put any plans in place for you to follow shallow_thought. I'd say the biggest thing is to get some settling done if possible and explore our surroundings. The first twenty or so turns, even with all the worker techs available, will not allow for much by way of building or expansion.

I'll try to not get the civ reduced to smouldering rubble before you're back. I'm not sure whether there'll even be a settler out by then, but perhaps on quick.
The save for turn 2 has come to me; did it also get copied to you? If not, it's no problem for me to start playing today rather than tomorrow as I was expecting.

Ok the save is played, not much done, moved the scout NW>SW, and I moved the warrior 1 E
This is what I found:
Sheep and copper in the west, otherwise fairly barren land. We could plant where the scout is and go for a low population unit pump, but too early to say. More scouting needed.
The only other thing I did was to move the worker to the wheat and farm it. I ended his action at end of turn.
