That's a 1upt consequence as well, there's simply no space to keep several successive generations of units. You can't let AI delete it's own units, because you'll never make the logic work quite right, so you have to let them upgrade. Another feature distinct from previous installments is that armies don't grow in size, which is why, I think, the combat formula is now riding on an exponent -- it's "as if" you built a whole bunch of stronger units, not just a single one.

Yeah, but it feels like they simply took the old mechanic and re-used it here, with no real thought about the consequences on the rest of the game. One way would be that units were upgraded using hammers and over time, instead of instantaneously and with gold.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width
How does concedes happen in other PBEMs? How do the players decide amongst themselves, especially without Full diplo?
What a sight must have been for Yuris when Sullla rolled over Frankfurt right next to his units! He must have been wondering whats going on there

In bigger PB Lurkers have watched how many people have talked about conceding and then asked players in threads if they were willing to do so (without talking who might concede and who not). In Civ5-PBEM 4 Ichabod talked about it in the tech-thread and the others agreed. You don't say.
I'm perplexed as to why you folks are upset about the slow speed of the concession. Yes, the players never see it as clear as the lurkers (I saw this outcome at "Sullla next to Archduke, teh to far to join in the eating"), but that's fine, it's not like they're suffering. So the game is no longer interesting to you...isn't a conceded game also no longer interesting, given that it's, er, done?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
