Can we turn it into an organised crime metaphor instead?

My game right now, summarized in one handy popup:

Seriously, health is just crippling. I'm about to wipe out a ton of my GNP by researching Astronomy, but I need to get fighters in the air before Chinese bombers start playing with it. I'm playing around with my destroyers, probably causing no end of confusion for RoboHelium...not much else to do.

How can I resist this? Sorry, Scooter, I'll catch you in the retelling of the story.

Robert Frost; 1920. Wrote:TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. 20

Okay, despite how my nine-week-old makes me feel, I'm still a young man. Doesn't seem right that I'm sittin' in an old man's bar, waiting for my time to die. At the end of this turn, I researched Astronomy, dropping my 100% research to below Ichabod's, of all daft things. Note, I'm second by a fair bit in MFG and CY. bang

Yeah, and for all enthusiasm about Mining Inc, it's spread around well and I'm still in a piddling second to the giant of China. Cool to have it spread this well, no doubt. I'm making a tidy little sum in Riffington, and if I could afford the time to make a bunch of banks and Wall Street I'd be almost break-even at 100%.

The last remaining city to get it will be Sam Da Man, just now finishing up his awesome coal plant. I truly, truly love Org for this kind of thing. I'll finish off with a barracks and then it's all-units, all the time. Like most of the rest of my cities.

I'm going to summon the wrath of RoboHeilium, I think. Notice the cleverly positioned spies? If I can take and bomb Silver Spire, I can cut the rail line through the jungle and buy a turn for reinforcements to pour in. Not a great chance, but hey, Caldeum is the best target I have.

I might, might, be able to interest my feuding little friends to help. I sent diplo with me asking for a Cow (Coalition of the Willing?) and a 2g countdown. Who knows? But Dave sure does have a lot of potential bodies to sacrifice to China.

Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Okay, so you know that army I talked about, the one Dave had near Palaven? He gave it to me. It is only now that it occurs to me I could have been a royal bastard with it and conquered him. But...he gave me 40+ musketeers, a GG, a GA, and a GP. That's gonna bribe me. Given Noble had whacked my transports so we were already at war, silliness was the only answer, really:

That sexy, sexy spy there? I realized she was still watching, I stopped that after the screenshot and had her blow up the rails. An absurd amount of dead guys with smooth-bores smothering machine guns later, Silver Spire was ours! And the bomb...

Fail. At least the garrison of Caldeum there isn't a huge force. I tried running culture, but the borders still didn't cut off, so two workers and a rail line means the newly dubbed Chaz can get hammered into the ground. Meh. Ah well, Thrilling Action! Also, sorry for your los(t borders) there Mist.

Here's the general setup. After EoT I have some seven more cannon and two more destroyers rolling off the lines. Still, this is probably as nice a force distribution as we're going to get. Let's root for a lotta shot-down airships!

Is this the end you guys prefer? wink Thank you Dave, this really was your smartest move.

Um, so was that a double move? I railroaded Dave's territory last turn to allow him to hit Gaspar himself
