Yeah, I just need to stop screwing up. I am confident that the Lurker Channel is probably as toxic about this stuff as the one back in PBEM #1.

Consensus is actually that tactical errors are all definitely in the "ouch, yep, I could've done that". Whatever comes, Archduke, this game is showing you're not ever going to be tagged "pushover". Keep up the tenacity.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Thanks, Commodore, I really needed that. The old PBEM #1 thread really let me doubt myself. I am much more of a intuitive player with quick, dirty analysis for quick MP games or boardgames. Whilst the challenge that PBEM provides is engaging, it is difficult to keep going if things get rough. Playing turn after turn of getting destroyed by Sullla was actually easier then seeing Woden slowly running away with the game whilst us three in the east duke it out.
For instance I feel Singaboy´s pain, but what he does not know how much it also pained me to just burn down Frankfurt, my god how I wanted to keep it. And thanks Bacchus for sticking with me and providing me with help and more especially motivation to keep analyzing and reporting. I am not sure I could have kept going sometimes. Anyway, no screenies, apologies. We kill the knight, we kill a horse in the south, we loose our northern marauding horse. We might loose a horse, but no crossbowmen, he is sitting in the city. To keep us safe I made another 200 gold suboptimal upgrade. We want to stop doing those. ![]()
Nah, fair screwups are enjoyable to read. As one of the few people who was toxic in PBEM1 I can say that what worked my emotion up was that your posts sometimes left an impression of not caring at all, taking decisions that you didn't appear to even consider or register -- at least never writing about them. Here, you've made it clear that you KNEW that's a gamble, and went for it consciously, which maybe a mistake, but no-one should get worked up over it.
Oledavy is in a serious slump, I fear he expected to have this go a lot smoother. No post once again although he had a turn. You might be right, I am tempted to offer him peace, we can always dow him later. We need 10 more turns to have cheap upgrades. He won´t get another DoF from me though.
I am very happy I upgraded an expensive archer, because Oledavy exposed his 2 promotions crossbow to kill my 2 promotions horse.
I loose 2 horseman, he looses his crossbow. If not for my mistake this war would be an absolute disaster for oledavy. Still, tally: Oledavy losses: 2 cross, 2 knights, 1 hoplite Archduke losses: 4 horses, 1 cross Before After This war served to drain us both of ressources and time. We will finish 4 workers in 3 turns, easily boosting Feudalism, so I switch to Civil Service. And our lone rider survives. Mykenes and Dorium need more districts. I am thinking industrial for Mykenes and maybe a acropolis 1NW for Dorium. An Encampment needs a tile buy right now. And natural expansion is: Kilimanjaro! ![]() Notice Frankfurt 2! Singaboy will definetly come for us, although he is at 282 mil power only. For comparison, both Oledavy and us are at 260!! What a bloody war.
A quiet, consolidation turn. I move a warrior north, a hoplite east and an archer in position to bombard a swordsman.
Oledavy is thinned out a bit. He is at 220 milpower, he has 1 knight, 1 crossbow, 2 swords and 1 archer I know off or showed off in the last turns. I imagine a new knight or crossbow is going to pop out in any city soon, so I am staying out of range. With 2 more horses (one with 1 movement for pillaging promotion) incoming and the third crossbow from the capital, we can cautiously consider advancing somewhere. Probably Shuyler as pillaging that commercial district promises even more funds.
This is not even funny anymore.
![]() Musketman? Money does not seem to be an issue, I expect another wave of Oledavy´s troops soon, probably followed by Singaboy in 15 turns. Whilst Woden has DOUBLE our science and yeah, DOUBLE our culture. I feel like an AI in this game. In any case, I will play this solely for the fun and learning experience from this turn forward, I very much doubt I can conquer any more territory. ![]() As a side note, I am happy to concede from this turn onward. |
