[PB 55] Miguelito and Mjmd help Amicalola avoid a repetition of last time

(December 6th, 2020, 05:36)Amicalola Wrote: Alright, I've had dinner, watched a movie, cuddled my new kittens, and am about to go to bed. I'm feeling a lot calmer and less angry now, and I wanted to address my earlier poor reaction (which could reasonably be described as a big temper-tantrum). I've been debating back and forth whether to post this for the better part of an hour, but I want to get it off my chest.

As I said, Lewwyn taking the second half of the turn is not really a big deal. In fact, him attacking me and taking the second half of the timer when he did was entirely legal (the clock games beforehand are another matter, but I digress). I also do not have full information on the Lewwyn/SD situation, and arguably not even my own. Certainly, it is not as big a deal as I made it out to be, and I want to make clear that I have zero personal problems with Lewwyn before, during, or after this game. I've had a few chats with him in-game, and actually quite like the guy.

This whole thing was more the 'straw that broke the camel's back' for me with another issue, as some people may have noticed from my (admittedly juvenile) make-believe quote earlier.

I have had an increasing problem in the last year with Noble, and his conduct on the forums. I typed up a very lengthy post about why I feel this way, and then realised how silly that was. What I will leave it at, is that Noble has displayed a consistent cocktail of arrogance, self-righteousness, and bullying that I have never seen from anyone else on this forum, and are the antithesis of what I enjoy so much about this community. I believe that if anybody else repeatedly spoke the way that Noble does, it would (and should) not be tolerated here.

Probably because Noble happens to be on Lewwyn's team (and so vehemently self-righteous and rude about turn order every other time I have seen it come up, yet so quiet this time), this really triggered my feelings on him, and made me react unfairly both to Lewwyn, and to you two, who are stuck with my rash decision. I apologise. shakehead

This is probably the last time I will speak about it for various reasons, and I am aware that ultimately the solution is just 'stay out of his way.' But I felt that I owed an explanation to team-mates for the decision, and lurkers for the unfair reaction, and sending out 15+ PMs felt a bit silly. smile

Well, Noble is like this for a very long time and there are few others which are in Noble league , but is alright you know every community, every class on school, every working place has 1 or 2 of this kind of people. And i dont think Noble is bad, he just doesnt realize people have feelings and might be hurt ,
or he belives he is smarter then others and others must know that  lol ...

I agree that Noble doesn't seem like a bad guy; just very opinionated like most human beings. Like most human beings when a hypocritical situation arises with you or your friends (tribe), it probably didn't even register with him that they were doing something that he has railed against. I feel like I'm talking in the political forum lol.

Anyways, while my city system is pretty good for peacetime. I would say that war time is different. During war don't spare the whip! Be mindful of low food production cities.

One last thought. It is your game, Mig and I are just here for the ride. That being said if you want to make it up to me at least there is one way...... KITTEN PICTURES!!!!!!

wow this blew up and I have to admit I don't fully grasp it but uh... rooting for you!

(sorry I haven't been able to follow closely lately. Is there anything you'd like to discuss? And yeah, do you actually want this war to turn hot?)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. smile

Cheers, and no stress about not following as closely. Real life and all. I'll have way more specifics to discuss when I report next turn. nod

In the meantime, I can probably oblige that. wink
Splinter and Sweet Pea are my new favourite things in the world.  We rescued them after their mother abandoned them (found on a doorstep frown ), and we think they're about 2-3 months old now. They're a bonded pair, so they spend all of their time together, including sleeping. heart

T113-114 (50-25 BC)

So, battle plans. We are largely building up for the next 10 turns, although I believe there is the opportunity to cause a little damage in this period too. nod

First of all, we finish HBR at the EOT, and finished Construction last turn, so we're good to go on tech for a while. I have been thinking about vulnerable points in their defenses that we could exploit in the short term while we build up an army, and I think I have found one:

'Scoober-whatever' has been defended by 2 archers consistently for 15+ turns. I actually wonder if they think we can't see it? I am going to make a canal between the two oceans, and send 2 galleys with 4 swords (open to changing unit comp; also could be 3 galleys if necessary) over to amphibiously attack it. Should be ready in about 8-9 turns (galleys need to travel, forts need to build). Smarter worker management could have brought this down to 7 turns, and again I am kicking myself for making nooby moves. Oh well, only one way to learn. Probably by re-ordering some workers in the south I can make it faster again, although it's less efficient than it would have been. banghead

Here is our stack in the north:

As you can see, 'stack' is a somewhat generous word. This is where I will be collecting the bulk of our forces until we are ready to strike properly, I feel. Alternatively, we can send them through the southern theatre to relieve SD, depending on how much trouble he's in over the next 5-10 turns. The current 'stack' massing in the south is about half this size, just enough that I feel safe over at the new border city.

More long-term, many of the 'M' cities are building libraries right now and are about to whip them to completion, and they will build barracks and units afterwards. Perhaps I should just move straight to barracks' now and skip the libraries, saving them until later? Thought appreciated. This includes the jungle cities mostly, and the Moai city as well.

Meanwhile in world events, Civac sends his monstrous army to take the first of what will likely be many AT cities. This is definitely Civac's game to lose.

Short term, I'll be really happy if my ScooberStrike works out. We can actually do it with zero turns of warning for them.

Edit: I actually just whipped the market in Daicquiri. We'll grow it as fast as possible for 5-6 turns, then figure out what happens next. I figured there was no point waiting though, since it's just lost gold.

I've always preferred cats for their lower-maintenance care.

With dogs, I feel like I have to pay attention to them all the time. They're more rewarding for it, but (for me at least) not by enough to justify it. Meanwhile with kittens/cats, I get a few hours of love per day when they want attention, and a cuddly companion at night, but I also get to do what I actually want to for the rest of the day. smile

I do think dogs are better for people with more time/extroversion than I, though. My partner prefers them, for example. I'm just a massive homebody.

Delay libraries. We're at war without an army.
Make it at least 3 galleys, and sim the attack, either https://zulan.net/civ/vodka/ or in a sandbox. If you don't have enough swords take some axes with you. But yes this looks fun.

I don't see much of a point in relieving SD. Opening another front against Lewynn should be enough. But of course, when you're about to attack it can't hurt to skirmish in the south as well to divert attention.

I love Vodka! I've had it in my bookmarks since you first linked it to me. smile

I'll definitely use it for the attack depending on what he puts into the city. Right now if nothing changes, we have a 90% chance to raze even with 2 galleys, but we should probably count on him adding at least 1 more unit to the city.

Also, Circumnavigation came in this turn, worth 22 commerce.

Couple quick thoughts
1) Cats > dogs
2) Make sure you have scouts in Civac / Jowy lands. As you've noted sadly we have powerful neighbors. Even in PB52 where I had a lot of neighbors at least I was able to leave 1 flank completely barren for a while which helped. I don't think you should do that here. Put some old unpromoted spears / axes in those cities. Jowy border is also long unlike Civac border which is unfortunate. Mind with what Jowy keeps saying in tech thread hopefully he will just let us fight Lewwyn. But rather safe than sorry.
3) Agreed no libraries atm. Again my "production, mixed, commerce" method is more for non war situations. After PB51 I recognized not having specific jobs for my cities led to a smaller military. Making sure the mixed and productions cities were churning out units more often / most of the time in the case of production cities was to ensure I kept up in army (which my single player self was not used to). When your at war though WHIP WHIP WHIP. Again be mindful of low pop, low food production cities. You should end up with 2-3 unhappiness in commerce and mixed cities far from the front. 3-4 near the front, and then 1-2 in production cities. Another thing I've learned lurking and playing is that people especially attacking don't seem to commit enough. Your opponent will whip to the bone if they are losing. It is better for you to whip hard early so the war doesn't drag on and you have to keep doing it for a long time.
