Zula start with Agric and Hunting ... the two cheapest techs there are

BT starts are almost always stronger. We need in relatively short time Agriculture, Mining, Animal Husbandry, Bronzeworking and Fishing. Hunting would be nice too. BT also comes in 12 turns there is not that much time.

Anyway, time zone is GMT +1 here. I will not be concious for the next few hours.
Khmer could be an interesting choice though they will likely be taken by the time the snake curls around again.

Yeah, I am also considering China. There is no sinergy at all but a lot of raw power. Optimal starting techs are likely Fishing/Mining but the civs who have that (England, Portugal, Rome) are otherwise not very appealing.
What is your take on the civ choice?

Mining and Fishing civs ... so we can build fishing boats and go on a direct run for BW.
Carthage - Num Cav (Horse Archer with extra Melee bonus), Cothon (replaces harbor and gives +1 trade)
English - ha!
Portuges - Carrack (caravel that can carry 2), Some form of supped up custom house (I have never build a CHouse)
Roman - Praet (Str 8 Sword), Forum (market replacement for +25% GP)

What is BT?
We can delay Agric as we have fish (need fishing and fishing boat).
Need BW and worker to chop some forests (we have a few)
Animal Husb for the cows and to find the horses
No point in landing BW without a worker.
We can build a fishing boat in 6 turns (6x5h). Not sure we can tech fishing in 6 turns. So I think fishing should be one of our techs.

BT = worker
Fishing boat first is interesting. Would help with the early commerce needs.
Note that after border expansion we have a 4 yield tile in the elephants. If we move to the western plains hill we get it from turn 1.
