Quote:Greeting, Mmuff_Hi.

I, too have yet to meet anyone else. My explorations have mapped ot the surrounding area, but has stopped just short of a strip of jungle. I presume your warrior crossed that jungle to get here?

In the interests of coordinating our exploration, and to start the relations between our two nations on a good note, I shall share with you what little I know about these lands.

Should your warrior turn his gaze upward, he would see the twin mountains we call the Pillars of Herakles. The ice on these peaks thaw in spring, feeding the serene Lake of Feasts, named so for its bountiful catch and the variety of spices that can be found in the groves near it. Past the Lake of Feasts is the Northern coast. Follow the coast North-West, and will eventually come across the forests of Aetolia. Beyond that is the glorious city-state of Athenai. While our elders refuse to let anyone enter the bounds of the city, the explorer Euthymenes, whom you are already acquiainted with, will be on hand with food and and drink for your weary scouts. I apologise that I cannot do more to make you feel welcome, and thus I am afraid warm words of greeting and directions are all I can provide.

While I do not expect you to reveal the location of your capital as I have done in such detail, may I inquire as to which direction it is, so that I may divert my eventual explorations in the other direction? For that way, I may meet yet another ascending civilisation, like ours.

On that note, shall we make a pact to reveal the whereabouts of these other civilisations to each other should we encounter them? That, I feel, would be in both our interests.

I look forward to your reply, and to our mutual cooperation.

Sincerely,
Sylon, First Citizen of Athenai

Quote:Sylon, First Citizen of Athenai ... greetings to you this day.

My humble capital is in the South but you would have to go SE and then SW from the Pillars to find it. My warrior has headed NE and I will let you know if I find anything. I agree to your excellent suggestion of a pact to inform each other of other civilizations (if there are any). However, please do me the honor of informing me about them prior to telling them about me (if you know what I mean).

Regards,

MMuff

Yes it is a song! or (if you are old enough), it is also known as the theme song for Australia II's successful America's Cup challenge of 1983.

I might be developing a song theme with this game.

Quote:Hail Mmuff_Hi!

I come bearing news. Our explorer, Pytheas, in the East, has come into contact with a people who call themselves the Inca!

He tells me that these 'Inca' are fierce in their warfare and extravagant in their splendour. Their warriors, he claims, are lavishly adorned with necklaces of wolves' teeth, bracelets made from seashells and caps made from the skin of lions. Their arms, too, are intricately carved and decorated. Each of their warriors are armed with a sling, a club, and a large rectengular shield, and in the use of each of these they are extremely skilled.

I assume that your warrior is in the spice grove South-East of the Lake of Feasts. The Incan scout's position is six days (moves) away from the grove. Of these, the first three days should be spent moving South-East, back into the jungle. From there, travel East three more days, and you shall come across a grassy hill where a glittering, yellowish metal can be found. The Incan scout is currently there.

I have yet to formally compose a greeting to them. Would you like me to inform them of the existence of your civilisation, or would you prefer that I refrain from revealing it just yet?

I wish you good fortune in your endeavours and look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Sylon, First Citizen of Athenai

too busy for role playing. My warrior is SW of the two hills NE of the Pillars. Please let the Inca's know my whereabouts and that I will turn to head in their direction. Feel free to provide them directions.

Not much to report, building a second WB while growing. Following Sylon's directions as above ...

I think I might have got my start a little sub optimal. Oh well, I guess that that goes well with my middle game. I still haven't got a worker out, but I have 2 work boats out. My plan from here is to let my worker finish (3), then chop and camp the furs (hammers into exploring WB to go South and East). Then grow and build a couple of warriors before whipping a settler.

Here is my current guess re the land ... a sort of 5 leave clover with that little yellow dot at the center. My warrior is heading into the center to see if it is worth fighting over.

That made me laugh. smile

This is another clever wordplay, right? You're chopping the forests (firs) and camping the furs? I assume you're not planning to chop the furs.

Your theme song link got removed by Sony, here's another one, we'll see how long it lasts.

Chop the forest on the furs and then camp the denuded furs. Or I could chop the fir trees and then camp the furs. ahh - yes a very clever word play ... see what happens when your typing is quicker than your thinking ... or you conet spel right.

Please don't chop the furs...you can camp on top of the forest and keep the 1 hpt.

Also, building the second work boat but not working the improved food, yes, that is n00b. If you want any MM advice, I am your dedicated lurker. Or maybe that is why you aren't posting much tongue

I initially decided to post every 5 turns until the game heated up ... thus my slow posting.

MM suggestions always welcome. Any comments on my general directional plan ...
