[SPOILERS-PBEM15] Mansa Musa of the Ottomans

Of course its a tyranny, but "republic" has better PR shhh

Doesn't being a republic mean you let other people tell you what to do? Do you want your rivals to think they can bully you? wink

Yeah, like the diplo so far hope it developes good. Would really be good to have a save flank - especially with my non-existing MP-Experience and the cramped start.

My GLH musings will proably be void though. Better get some cities and production up fast and secure copper and horses. There could very well be yet another neighbour south / southwest.

A republic, as I know it, is a system where some people get a vote (in Ancient Greek, the republic excluded children, foreigners, slaves and even women from voting).

So - this republic is a "One Whip - one vote"-Republic - every one of my citizens who is able to crank the whip gets a vote :-D.

(Now, I am of course not able to whip just yet, but just wait until T16 when I get my voting rights lol)

T13 played (in my lunch break, really addictive this stuff...)

scouted SW, fully expecting to discover T-Is borders, but to no avail. Seems like he is N or NW of the pigs. Perhaps he can help out, so I sent this message with my save.

More later, back to work lol

Quote:Hi T-I,

heres your save.

went SW with the warrior, was nearly sure to spot your borders - but we seem to be a little further away than i thought (not bad at all, a little more room for us :-)). Could you give me a hint where your capital is located so I have an easier time figuring out settling between us ?

The exact position of my capital is 5S of the wheat btw.

Piet

and his answer :

Quote:Hi Piet,

No worries - I had assumed you were going to move NW with the warrior, which would have given you a prime view of the land SW of my capital. From memory (I'm at work, so I don't have access to the save) I'm approximately 2E 4N of where your warrior was last turn.

I'll be in touch tonight once I've looked at the save about other potential city sites, but just a heads-up that I have very little room in which to expand in directions other than west, so I will want the lion's share of the resources in that area.

All best,
T-I

Should be possible. I have not much interest in the pig site NW of the Gold/Rice/Wheat f.e., which is approx. at the middle between our capitals (if he settles W of it). Perhaps this could be a starter.

Nothing exiting in the north. Worker finshed farm this turn, changed to it.
Jkaen got Bronzeworking and grew to Size 2. That is also reflected in 9.000 Soldiers (see below)

Demos at start of Turn 13 :

Hinduism FIADL this turn, so Ioans tech was Poly and he is the GNP leader. Jkaen, TT both switched techs this turn. Everyone except Ioan is researching a basic tech, Ioan is researching a 1 prereq one.

So we have

Ioan : Mysticism, Wheel, Agri, Poly
Researching 1 Prereq-tech : Priesthood, Meditation, AH, Pottery or Masonry

I would guess AH, Pottery or Priesthood (for Oracle) would be in also

Jkaen : Hunting, Agri, Mining, BW
Researching basic tech : Fishing, Wheel, Mysticism

Wheel sounds right, to connect the copper

T-I : Hunting, Mysticism, Agri, AH
Researching basic tech : Fishing, Wheel, Mining

He is not coastal, so Fishing should be out. Either Wheel (to connect Horses and build chariots), or Mining

TT : Mining, Wheel, Agri, Pottery (talked shit a few threads before ...)
Researching basic tech : Fishing, Hunting, Mysticism

Must be mysticism, as he is not coastal and hunting should make no sense without BW (he could have game, but then he should have Hunting already)

Tried to formulate an acceptable settling agreement for the first couples of turns.

Quote:Hi T-I

Yes, it should be possible to get a deal there. I will try to outline how I would imagine it.

If your capital info was correct without you having the map available (4N2E of my warriors last position, which was 1SE of the pigs), there are exactly 12 Tiles N/S-Distance between our caps, i.e. 11 Rows of tiles between them.
It should be possible to draw a line E/W somewhere there, and discuss possible exceptions as they arrive.
For example, we could start with declaring the 5th through 7th E-W row of tiles as neutral territory which no one of us settles without discussing it first.
Below this it would be my area to settle (f.e. the gold city, wich would be in my 4th row) and above it would be your area (f.e. a city claiming the pigs in your 3rd or 4th row).
Any city planned in a neutral row could be discussed. So if you want to settle a nice city spot later somewhere in the west - which would happen to be in your 5th or 6th row - just ask for it.

When we discover more of the map we can (and should) rediscuss this, according to geography, resources, and so on.

I too have not much space in the E - it is a dead end where I can fit 2 cities maximum. My S and W is at this time yet pretty unknown to me - there is ocean in the E and SE of me which may go further around. I may very well have more space in the S than you in the N - I will hopefully know more in the near future.

As we have limited map knowledge by now, we could limit this agreement to a certain turn (say - 60 or 80) and perhaps combine it with a NAP. We can start to rediscuss the agreement approx. 10 Turns before it runs out.

Would something along these lines be allright for you ?

Greetings from Ankh-Morpork,

Piet
