Saddle Up! Pegs Off Again

We are up to Turn 50 now and I have quite a few piccies so I think I need to break this down into a few posts.

First of all, lets bring you up to speed with what has been happening over the last 5 or so turns.

Ceil got Oracle as stated in my previous post, and I do believe he took MC with it. Catwalk landed Stonehenge either then very next turn or the one after that.

Ceil chased a worker of Cull's right into the lap of Ad hoc who also declared on Cull.

Research wise I completed Maths on T49 and on ending T50 I got Mysticism in 1turn.

Diplo wise, there has been a few emails fired around

Catwalk has gone quiet - not too sure if he is busy or losing a little interest in the game and the diplo side or if it is deliberate a he wants to keep his options open in attacking me. I still havn't forgotten Ad's opening communications about Catwalk and Ceil getting along well early doors.

Ad hoc sent me a summary of how he sees the game so far

Quote:Hi Peg, how’s it going.

Just keeping you updated on how I see it.

Cull has basically given up on the game, he’s just building warriors and turtleling up in his two cities.

Catwalk is researching Iron Working so we could have some Praet action soon depending on what the NAP situation is like, I’m NAPed until T100 so hopefully should be safe. Have you got a good NAP with him?

Ceil is now building the Mids to go with the Oracle so he might have to be watched before he wonderspams himself into a unassailable lead.

Ad Hoc

And my response

Quote:Hi Ad,

Things are going ok over this neck of the woods. So far!

Thanks for the heads up on Catwalk. We have a semi agreed NAP until T100 similar to yourself except we need a border settlement agreement to run alongside that. So technically we are not NAP’ed yet, but I have a dedicated city on military pump for any wrong doings my way as a precaution.

I have not heard from Cull all game apart from “Hello” early game and I have not contacted any further. I no doubt expect Catwalk to head in that direction (or at least I am hoping anyhow).

Ceil likes his turn a day diplo which is hard going. I think he realises I am struggling with replying in that fashion and has slowed down a little but we are communicating well. I believe he took MC with his Oracle – personally thought CoL would have probably been a better selection for a religion and the opportunity to generate some more happies whilst generating a GP for his shrine off his Oracle, but still MC is not too bad a choice for an IND leader. I contemplated challenging him for the mids also, but I told him I hadn’t planned to go for it, so it would be bad for relations I think if I stole it from underneath him. Not sure I could beat him too it anyhow. He seems to think I am the tech leader at this point. Granted I am doing ok, but still I feel he is playing a savvy game, and knows more than he lets on about this game.

Peg

And as mentioned above, Ceil does like his dailly communications rolleye I don't mind but I have to admit after a long day at work the last thing I want to be doing is sorting out diplo stuff. Damn it's harder than keeping this thread up to date :neenernee

Quote:You're a good man Mr. Pegasus.

Your next city must get gems, I understand. The lakeside spot makes more sense to get glam running, I reckon. I've noticed your high GNP, if I may ask, what are you researching?

Myself, I'm learning masonry. I'm sure you can guess the reason...

-ceil

For someone who claims to not know to much about demogs and graphs, there is an awful lot of time being spent here rolleye

Quote:So Mids are assumed not as expensive to you as first thought then

I can’t imagine why you would want Great Wall on this game, and TGL is a non starter as we have no requirement or ability to build lighthouses.

I am close to Maths, Masonry was possibly my next tech to push for Mids myself if it was still going. Extra hammers in the chops would certainly aid the build, but I still thought it might be a push.

I see Catwalk landed henge this turn.

Followed By:

It's not that they aren't expensive... it's just that I can't afford any more settlers!

I've been watching your gnp graph, it's pretty insane. You must be working specialists, I'm sure you're the first to exercise that ability. I seem to remember I advised you to delay that 4th city, looks like my advice was *too* good... now you're the tech leader!

When do you think city 4 will be plopping? maybe trade routes can follow shortly after?

Happy civving,

-ceil

congrats! I see your choice to stay at 3 cities for so long has paid off with a handsome tech lead. It's also given you a metagame advantage because Catwalk is giving me hurt faces about my demos while (honestly) I think you're the leader on the board. Nice choices there, and good luck going forward. I just started math research, so thanks too for the known-tech boost. :-)

May I ask, where did your 4th city go?

-ceil

And my response:

Hi Ceil,

Maths took longer than anticipated! As mentioned in one of my previous emails, my settler went in your direction and will border pop next turn (I think ). If you settle down towards the Corn and Deer, we should see each others borders.

I think we both know that you are not doing too badly yourself . Do you have a MIDS turn projection or have you changed your mind?

Peg

If he changes his mind - I think I will push for MIDS.

With Resources

I have a settler one turn away from arriving on the forested plains hill 1NW of Cow and 1NW of Crab in the Northern Centre of this shot, and an army of workers ready to pasture the cows next turn.

East & West

I am probably not going to get the No1 prize for scouting - maybe Ad hoc will get that, but based on Catwalk telling me he brought home his marauding warriors for garrison duty and save money i'm guessing I can't be too far off coming close to being the most adventurous.

Next Post ..... Cities

I was going to put the next screenshot in with a load of F* screen shots, but I actually think it might be better suited here.

A F1 Overview
[Image: PBEM25T050F1Screen0000.jpg]

No Name City (Capital)

Growing into unhappiness again cry next turn. I feel the need to probably whip a few more workers out of here until I can sort out my happiness issues.

Going forward I think I will continue to crank out workers and settlers from here whilst also building infrastructure as and when it arises. I have 2 developed commerce tiles which I also need to put some time on and get them up to some decent commerce value.

So far I have only got 1 connected trade route to Big Whiskey.
When do the others come online? I am not too sure how this works huh

Big Whiskey

This is my GP fam at the moment and also my way around the crippling maintenance from a research point of view. Where possible I will be trying to keep my 2 scientists running for the forseeable future.

In terms of what else can come out of here, I will probably get a few more workers out similar to No Name City and infrastructure as and when it becomes available. Tile wise I am trying to get the flood plains commerce up to max value also.

Lahood

I stupidly built an axe before the Barracks bang, but not to worry. Lahood will be my miltary pump for the forseeable future whilst also whipping out the odd Worker or 2 to keep it iwhin it's happy cap. I have toyed with the idea of building a library in here a) for culture but also to run scientists to cover Big Whiskey. Is there any value to that? There is not much commerce available to go with it huh

I also have a worker down here developing that Deer tile currently being worked that should come online any time soon.

San Miguel

Latest addition to the empire. Mainly to claim the use of the Gems and the use of gold. Set straight to work on a workboat as I thought I would get better value from that in the longer term than going for direct growth. With border pop on T50 it can claim the crabs in the next few turns. I desperately need to work out how to get some workers over there though to devlop some of the other tiles for when it grows. It is likely that I will have to farm all the tiles around here, and when possible probably build windmills over this hills. That should allow me to work all the tiles and a few specialists. Build wise, it will cover as a military pump. After workboat will be granary followed by barracks.

City 5 will actually go NW of the crabs you can see in the above screenshot.

Next up......Demogs and Graphs
Reply

Graph wise I am only missing Ceil's now.

First off - the Demographics

Probably not a fair reflection as I completed Mysticism on ending turn - I should have probably took the screenshot before hitting enter.

I am not running away with this by a long stretch but overall I think I am doing ok.
I'm curious to know if you lurkers agree or not though, as I know the others are watching me like a hawk and I don't want to set myself up for a fall smoke

Scores on the Doors

GNP

Most of my spikes are when I start to work my scientists at full.
I expected Ad hoc to be higher but then again I think the settling of the 4th cities early on may have hindered slightly. It does worry me now what my 5th city may do shhh

MFG

Catwalks Mfg is through the roof - I do worry what he might be up to with that production poweress. I am trying to get my head around how his GNP is so high also. I know he built Stonehenge but is that really overloading that GNP graph huh

Crop

As of yet I have not even commented on poor old Cull. He really is screwed in this game. alright I hope this doesn't put you off playing again Cull (if you ever get around to reading this). I just cannot see you pulling this deficit around.

It looks like Ad hoc has decided to give a peaceful build game a go as I initially thought after his adventures in prior games. Although he couldn't resist having a little pop at Cull and getting a worker out of it also which is fair gain for his efforts. rolleye

Catwalk is doing alright in this category too. Maybe neither are so noobish after all or you lurkers are giving some unfair advice which could be useful here too :neenernee

Power

My spike was Maths followed by a chariot and an axe coming online.
Cull like I mentioned earlier is turtleing and pumping mmilitary to save himself from extinction. I will be watchiong Cat's movements very carefully though!

Culture

My curves change as libraries are built. Ad hoc's change as he got Hinduism - and you can see where he revolts to Slavery. Catwalk's are very similar to Ad's except you can see where Stonehenge kicks in at the end and yo can also see where he converted to Budhism and revolted to slavery within a few turns.

Espionage

Just for completion - nothing much really to report here other than you can see when the others revolted in and out of anarchy.

Next up..... Everything Else I have piccies of

Reply

Nearly there for all you lurkers that think my 50 turn summary is a crock of .....

I decided to take screenies of the F* screens also, of which you have already had the citiy view shot.

I am paying 18 in city maintenance already yikes and it is only going to get worse in a few turns time. I think I as getting 17GPT at 0% science iirc.

In case you haven't sussed it out yet - I am in slavery whip

Meaningless probably - but you can see form this Cull is at war with Ceil and Ad

This is what I have to play with next turn jive
My intention is to have at least one axe and one spear in every city, then go from there. Probably with more axes just in case those Praets gets a little adventurous my way.

The only tech you can't see on there is Mathematics which I have. I am aiming for monarchy and Code Of Laws asap to sort out my maintenance and happiness issues.

Well at least one of mine is in there - makes a change from my other games :neenernee

Damn this is depressing - over 30 hours for 50 turns rolleye
And as you can see - I have focussed on Granary, libraries and barracks for infrastructure and Woirkers make up the majority of my units with more to come!

The text in your images is basically unreadable. It would be better to crop the image to the size of the interface window (the graph, demographics window etc.) and post that directly. I believe Photobucket is resizing your images, so assuming the overall size stays the same the text may become readable then.

Thanks for letting me know thumbsup

I had not realised this as it reads ok on my screen but I shall see what I can do.

Pegasus, thank you for playing out the string. I did detect your stressed out diplo, I hope our mid/end game diplo was a better fit.

I think you had the right idea early with whipping and slow expansion... not sure where you got off-track since you stopped reporting. :neenernee

Well played Pegasus, and fully honorable. A+++ would play again ;-)

I had no clue Ad Hoc tipped you off about my initial plans, no wonder you were so tough-nosed in negotiations smile Incidentally, those plans weren't terribly concrete. I played most of the game by feel, and you as a semi-target was simply a consequence of meeting you last. I did stall diplomatically while getting Aristocats ready, other than that I really was busy whenever I was slow to respond. You had a strong start, where did your growth go wrong?

I was very close to seeking an alliance with you instead of Ceiliazul mid-game, as you will see in my thread. Had I done so, we could have done some joint expansion in his direction instead of jointly expanding towards you. We definitely could have fenced in the bots if I had done some better threat assessment during the game. Mea culpa!
