T0 begins the Egyptian empire in a fertile desert

Rivers, oasis, floodplains, desert hills, plains hills, peaks, lush grassland, tons of food resources, forests... Seriously what kind of start is this? Observe:

Yes, warrior started on the hill so I moved him NE for lack of any better ideas. Anyways, this start is clearly NOT made by a map generator. It's too unusual. So we know the start around us is at least heavily customized. This would seem to imply that this may be a heavily custom map? Not sure on that, though this terrain is certainly not very typical map generator stuff. Since it's so odd I'm guessing it's probably either mirrored or really close to it. Anyways, let me check this:

As expected, Sian and AT both settled on T0. Probably settled in place, as I can't imagine one of these spots 1 move away is better. Ok, better put, they are not better. Unless of course they've got different land than me in which case who knows. Demos before I settle:

Perhaps I should break the lazy habit this game of always including demographics. Because seriously, I'm not doing C&D. Life is too short. Plus, we're just hanging out here having fun ya'll. Speaking of which, crap, I forgot to rename the capital. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Yes, I did settle it:

No, it shall not be named Thebes. And hey, gold! In what looks like maybe a terrible spot. Hooray. So yeah, looks like hills/mountains west, hills/forests easts. South looks river-y and hill-y, and north looks like dry land and floodplains (tile-bleeding shows additional FP tiles). We are in the south portion of the map, because tile bleeding again shows we have some snow trees down in the southeast portion of the map. So we're below the equator. Hm. Interesting. Should be a fun game. thumbsup

Oh, right, nearly forgot. I decided I'll go for Bronze Working first as this capital is whip heaven. So Mining it is. AH probably right after that for plains cow production and, more importantly, find horses. Not going to commit to a rush this early, but I'd like to have all my options on the table. Also look for stone.

Build-wise, basically worker first because we're rolling in agri sources and, what do you know, we start with Agriculture. Also, that rice is wet due to the Oasis which is cool. I'll probably aim to get a second city rather early and settle it close to share some of these good tiles. Probably something like worker, warrior, settler. Or something. I don't know, just going to roll with whatever feels best.

Ok good, thanks guys. I was afraid I'd be the only person who thought it was kinda funny. Maybe I'll try other parodies in future turn reports or something.

I had to read that passage a second time before I realised I hadn't actually written any of it.

lollol

Ok I actually audibly laughed out loud at my computer reading that. Perfect. Speaking of perfect, we already played another turn. Cool. So I'll dump a screenshot or two from that in a minute.

T1 finds more precious metals

Well, I THOUGHT I took an overhead picture but it didn't take. So you're stuck with two close-ups to demonstrate what I'm seeing of the map thus far. First, I found gems:

Again in the middle of the desert. Hm. Also, note the peaks around it. Looks like we have a mini-barrier of some sort? Not sure if it goes all the way down or not though. West side we have similar action going on:

Pattern detected. Interesting. Trying to figure out how a peak shield jives with "it'll be a bit cramped" though. Mental note: check land tile totals next turn.

Oh, I forgot to post a picture. Here's confirmation that the land is probably mirrored:

All of us working the same tiles. The one land area oddball is AT popping his borders already with creative. Once my borders pop I can get a bonus hammer on my worker by working the 1/2/0 forest plains.

T2 redefines the meaning of the word cramped.

So perhaps I misunderstood. Maybe we're not cramped by PLAYERS, but rather... peaks.

Obviously a wall. South:

Tricky-ish to see in this shot, but there's definitely peaks down there. I have a map theory already. Also, we're at 884 land tiles:

That's actually pretty reasonable for 4 players. Settings screen says Small world size:

Also says Always War. Whoops. We were going for just regular CTON here. I'm ok with AW, but it does change the game. So if someone wants to switch, we'll have to restart. Ah well. Anyways, I checked world wrap:

Then I remembered Mist already told me it was Cylindrical. Finally, I went through and Vacation-ized my civ:

Named the capital Cancun only because I didn't see anyone suggest that one yet wink. I'll start going through lurker suggestions after this.

My map theorizing will probably come later tonight.
