Turn 7 report:

Our inventive people have discovered the secrets of seeds and of the tilling of the earth:

Our seers foresee that next they will discover how to delve beneath it.

In Armenelos, it is sheep-shearing season (yay, I remembered!):

At this point, maybe I should post the breakdown of how growing to size 2 before maxing hammers for the Work Boat or maxing hammers from the outset compare (sorry for the formatting; it looked different when I was typing it):

Grow to size 2, then stagnate:
Turn Food Hammers Commerce Notes
0 3 1 3 Working Fish
1 6 2 6
2 9 3 9
3 12 4 12
4 15 5 15
5 18 6 18
6 21 7 21
7 22 10 23 Working Sheep, grow to size 2
8 22 15 25 Working Sheep & grassland forest hill
9 22 20 27
10 22 25 29
11 22 30 31 Finish Work Boat

Stagnate at size 1:
Turn Food Hammers Commerce Notes
0 1 3 2 Working Sheep till borders pop
1 2 6 4
2 3 9 6
3 4 12 8
4 5 15 10 Borders pop
5 5 19 11 Working plains forest hill
6 5 23 12
7 5 27 13
8 6 30 15 Working Sheep, finish Work Boat
9 11 31 18 Working improved Fish
10 16 32 21
11 21 33 24
12 22 36 26 Working (say) Sheep, grow to size 2

Unless I've screwed up somewhere, it appears that growing to size 2 first gets us to the benchmark of "size 2, Work Boat finished" one turn earlier, with fewer hammers (naturally) but more commerce. Not a big difference, but it seems to be worthwhile. Feel free to correct my math or assumptions.

Ocean Clam? ... usually thats impossible (then again ... so is freshwater seafood) ... that said, i'd first say to pick it up with a back filler city when you're starting to get low on good city spots

I agree ... the best spot so far is that one 4S of the capital. Hopefully there's more to the north-east.

Turn 8 report:

Our Scout revealed some contours to the land to the north that I was not expecting:

I found the Top 5 Cities screen interesting:

Did somebody else build a Work Boat, or did they build Warriors and Scouts?

Nothing much to report for Turn 9, save that from fog-gazing I think the northeast is surrounded by water, too; we are probably connected to another landmass through a narrow corridor running due north. Scout is investigating now.

I'd suggest keep moving on around looking for the best place to settle your second city ...

i'll be mighty surprised if someone fails enough not to build a workboat if they're size two right now

There are so few land tiles to the east, it should suffice to send a Warrior over there while building our first Settler. Besides, if there are good city-sites on the land-bridge that would be contested, it might be more important to know about them and get a Settler up there first.

I would be surprised if it wasn't a Work Boat build too.

Turn 10 report:

Just a shot of that peninsula to the north; evidently we're south of the equator:

on handcrafted map you can't use type of terrain for anything at all ... allmost fantasylike mapscript neighbours such as jungle next to ice have been seen before

Turn 11 report:

Our Work Boat finished at the end of the turn! Next turn we will be Gone Fishing ...

In case anyone is interested, I made a micro Scout mistake last turn. You can see in the last screenshot that if I had moved to the forest tile 1S of where I did, I would have revealed the plains tile 2SW of there on the coast, and ended up in the exact same spot this turn as I did, one of the two jungle tiles at the top of the screen (I picked the left one). Not a big error, though!
