Yeah, I like that #1 city feeling.

Are you, in fact, a pregnant lady who lives in the apartment next door to Superdeath's parents? - Commodore |
[SPOILER ALERT] Grimace hopes this one doesn't BSOD.

As opposed to that 1 city feeling.

As promised, here's where Commodore's 2nd city is, and, incidentally, I also found retep. ![]() So next turn The Wheel is completed and I'll have to go to 0% science to build up money, so I'm a bit torn as to what I should research. Here's my current tree: ![]() Fishing would allow me to get those crabs online for city #3. Pottery has obvious benefits that I don't need to go into. Masonry would let me build my UB, but probably isn't a huge priority right now. AH I don't really need for camps at this point, but it would be nice to know where the horses are for future city placement. I guess that kind of makes it a decision between Fishing or Pottery. Fishing does speed up Pottery, so maybe that is the way to go: Fishing->Pottery? What do you guys think? Also, my capital (Motley Crue) will finish its settler next turn. I currently have a worker in the queue following it, then I was thinking of going warrior (or axe, if the copper is online) and then another settler so I can build the marble city. Thoughts on that?
can you quantify:
- how many beakers fishing saves you - how much later you can build your first couple of cottages

In progress: Rimworld (April 10th, 2015, 01:35)Old Harry Wrote: can you quantify: Hi OH, thanks for the response. 1) I'm not sure. It partly depends on the known tech bonus, and I don't know who already has Fishing or Pottery among my 3 known neighbors. At a minimum, just from the prereq bonus, Fishing would boost Pottery research by 3bpt, which I think will go up to 4bpt in 2 turns when I start working the gems (I will go from 15bpt total to 22bpt). I believe it will shave a turn off of Pottery over the whole research period. 2) I can delay a little bit since I will have to do some chopping anyway. Without chops I only have 2 spots where I can build cottages at this time, and right now my priority with getting the wheel is connecting the gems and the copper, which will occupy one worker for 7 turns and the other for 8 turns. At present it's 4 turns for Fishing if I do it right now or 7 turns for Pottery. If I do Fishing->Pottery, it will (I think) take a total of 11 turns (shaving 1 turn off of Pottery but taking 1 turn to build cash). In that sense, I should probably start building cottages sooner than that. And now, thinking about it, I wouldn't be able to get the seafood online right away, anyway, since I don't know if I'll be able to get a work boat for a while yet, so perhaps pottery is better. Even though in the long run I save beakers by doing Fishing->Pottery, going Pottery first will actually help me out faster, and give me more commerce quicker.
Basically, once someone has researched a classical era tech, you get 2% per other player that knows a tech that you ae researching. When someone enters the medi era that goes to 4, then 6 and finally 8% for Ren and Ind eras respectively. When no one has researched a Classical era tech you get nothing.

Been busy this week (wife has been very sick, so I've had to care for the daughter -- even had to take time off work), so apologies for letting it go so long without an update, particularly since my 3rd city went down on T44. And here it is: ![]() I have a worker on the way to improve the cows, but it will take 2 more turns to get there -- I had to complete the roads connecting my copper and gems first. And yes, I'm building a monument even though I have a religion because there's no guarantee religion will spread and I need the culture. It'll be whipped once the city gets to size two, followed by a granary. So now I have an axe building in Motley Crue (3 turns), followed by a 6-turn settler (which I may whip -- I need to see what else is going on at that time). I'm a little reluctant to whip because it's got pretty good production right now, which will get even better when it grows to size 6 and works another grassland hill mine. Of course, the whip overflow can go into a granary -- I get pottery next turn. I'll be going Fishing next, though I'll have to earn some cash first. And here's an overhead view of my territory: ![]()

Wow, has it been that long since I reported? Didn't seem like it. Turns fly by at this stage. No big news to report, though. I have an axe on the way to my next city site where he has spotted a barb warrior. ![]() The settler will be built in just a couple more turns. It's a fight to see who gets City #4 fastest! I agonized over what tech to research next. Masonry, AH, Sailing and Priesthood all looked good. Priesthood for Temples and I'm seriously thinking about going for the Oracle. Sailing for the ability to reach the stone island and lighthouses. AH to get the elephants online for happy and to show me where horses are. Masonry to build my UB and to let me hook up the marble for city #4. In the end, I decided Sailing could wait a little bit. I wasn't going to put a city on that island until at least city #7, so it's not imperative. AH, while useful, won't give me an immediate benefit, so that can also wait. Between Priesthood and Masonry, I decided that Masonry would be most necessary right now, as I want to be able to hook up the Marble right away with city #4, which will then help with the Oracle. So I'm going to take a shot at the Oracle after I get marble. Right now no one has Polytheism, so I suspect no one is going down the religion tree right now. It's possible someone is going Meditation->PH, but that seems odd since I already nabbed Meditation, and they could go Poly->PH and get themselves a religion. So I'm banking on the fact that no one else is as close to PH as I am right now, and I have a good chance at the Oracle, especially with marble. Anyway, that's where I'm at right now. |
