Yeah, the lack of food means that would be an awful capital longterm. Unless we just wanted to spam EW for all time ... 11hpt is pretty good for size 2 but nobody within 12 tiles would be tough to rush effectively

Planting on the gypsum with a second city is interesting though. And shoving out a settler before Agoge is available seems wise if you want to use EW to take down players or city states.

Don't forget about the luxury bonus to combat strength to all units when attacking. It might seem like a small bonus but +1 at this point in the game is big.

I forgot to actually open up the save last night and move the EW onto the hill - busy evening but i had 5 min if I would have made it a priority - but right now I think settling the capital on the gypsum is too all-in on the EW rush. That leaves 3 plans to explore:
1. Settle on the hill 7-7 of the settler. I like that there is s ton of production to be had here and you're probably working both bananas after the first border expansion. Downside is losing 2 turns over SIP.
2. Settle on the cows. Only loses 1 turn. Use the marsh and 3f plant to get to size 2 quick then swap over to the 2h tiles. Banana after first border pop.
Both 1 and 2 would start with an EW and then either do a settler next or another EW, depending on what scouting turns up.
3. SIP. I'm not optimistic about this spot but might as well look it over.

Does settling on the cow give a 3 food capital? If so that is still going to be slower to the first EW and settler than 77. It works two three yield tiles until it picks up the 5 yield banana. 77 has three 4 yield tiles inner ring, and picks up the banana only one turn after the cows city would do.
The cow city can build a watermill though, but then a city on the gypsum, or around there, could still do that.

I am fairly certain it is a 3f plant but I would test that before playing. Regardless, I can see that the plains hill tile at 7-7 has so many better first ring tiles. The cow plant still needs to expand borders (and probably use its first 50g) to get 4-yield and 5-yield tiles under its borders, but the plains hill has plenty of 4-yield tiles in the first ring and will likely nab the banana on the first tile expansion.
This is all obvious after staring at the pic for a few moments, I just have to find a block of time where I can do that lol. My schedule gets a lot more manageable after today at least.

I do believe that 'bonus' resources are consumed on settle, and do not apply any further bonus. Strategic and luxury resources are the only ones that add value to a settle.

I don't think bonus resources get consumed on settle.
PBEM 9 Spoilers:
Just realized you guys can't read the spoilers above... Well, it's worth testing, I wouldn't be surprised even if different bonus resources worked differently in this mess of a game. But I'm pretty sure you keep it, meaning a 3/1 base yield if you settle on cows.

RL has been nutty and will continue to be through the next few weeks (wedding to go to next week, roommate/owner moving out so I am getting renters to be able to stay on, helping my parents with the estate of my uncle who passed last month, and then just trying to keep some kind of a social life and exercise schedule intact). I have time for a civ game, bUT these last two days have just been a little too packed.
If I can get a slow work afternoon I'll try to do some preliminary planning today though
