There are probably 2 other players/teams in this right now that probably could have executed equally well too. I don't think it's taking anything away from Mackoti's excellent game so far to point out that he started with a few extra chips in his stack. I am surprised that he's able to kill Rusten profitably. Not surprised that he can find a target for knigs, but surprised that Rusten is that target. I guess we credit superdeath for that?

Finally im getting the credit i deserve! lol.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

That's the thing. These "obvious" opportunities are only Mackoti-obvious.
Early game Rusten appeared to have near-equal micro ability to Mackoti. Rusten chased wonders while Mackoti chased conquest gold. Was it obvious that Rusten was doing the wrong thing?
A few turns ago Rusten was top 3 in score with super promos. It was Mackoti-obvious that he should grab that shrine but not at all obvious to the rest of us that he could turn that into a profitable war.
If not for TBS being TBS, he would effectively be out of this game.
-Comms got odds to win the double-island. TBS is likely going to have to fight for it.
-TBS' other island is now disputed by Old Henry. TBS is going to have to fight for that as well (although I see that being an easier win with Old Harry being distracted).
-Mackoti has the northern islands which I don't think anyone has touched yet. Here's who's not going to get there: WilliamLP, Elkad, GJ, Cairo. So unless Dtay or BGN land them they're Mackoti's.

Oh, you definately deserve credit for a solid defense. Your ability to defend (or Rusten's inability to kill you) probably led to Mackoti judging that Rusten was a SP-ace but an MP-rookie.

This, I don't think is obvious. FinHarry can absolutely contest them. Honestly, TBS has a decent chance to contest them too. Distances are shorter across the sea.
I'm not sure if Cornflakes/RefSteel left a N/S passage through the ice. Not sure why they'd have built a toroid without one...but if it exists, then of course Commodore and TBS can contest these islands from the south too.

Rusten is a great player. I think people underestimate the general level of play at RB though. In these type of games we have an awful lot of community experience, including old reports, to draw on.
Also, I'm annoyed at the constant war Devs for peace offers. I think I'd want a community rule for the next game: once war is declared, can't sign peace for ten turns to stop those shenanigans.
Current games (All): RtR: PB80 Civ 6: PBEM23
Ended games (Selection): BTS games: PB1, PB3, PBEM2, PBEM4, PBEM5B, PBEM50. RB mod games: PB5, PB15, PB27, PB37, PB42, PB46, PB71. FFH games: PBEMVII, PBEMXII. Civ 6: PBEM22 Games ded lurked: PB18

Not obvious perhaps but the odds are pretty good.

I agree, I like the Civ 6 10 turn minimum at war.
And yes there are many passages across the north/south wrap. The ice has many diagonal passages such that is looks like a solid mass for flavor but can easily be crossed.

So, Mackoti declared on Naufragar and offered peace but got a cold shoulder from Naufragar. Wow, he`s certainly not afraid of ghosts. Maybe there is still a chance of slowing down the Mackoti juggernaut enough so that TBS and the other players with Astro can win? This game isn`t over by any means.

Never had anything to aim for on the other side of the ice before.
Well, then it's a real free-for-all in the northern/southern islands, everyone should have access and Commodore won't be able to ignore Mackoti

I have to agree with his reasoning, though I'm not sure it will work. He's very right about this:

Naufrager's only choice is war now or war later. He's correctly identified that...and of course Mack has asked for 'later', which makes 'now' probably the best response.

Wow. That makes things even more interesting. Such a great map!
