Gaspar and NobleHelium - More Arguments About Buildings & Food.

Played turn 128.

Huge turn here, unfortunately played while Gaspar is largely incapacitated. First, foreign affairs.

Commodore's stack from last turn attacked Positioning and destroyed it. It looks like Mist counterattacked with questionable effectiveness. We'll find out for sure next turn from the graphs (I could probably calculate it this turn from the soldier numbers, but I can't be bothered).

Also, Commodore is farming jungle tiles not currently workable by any city. You only do that if you're chaining irrigation, and there's nowhere to chain it to. Conclusion? He's going to plant a city on the border to try to push us back culturally. Such an effort will probably be of limited effectiveness, as Caldeum is now putting out 50 culture per turn, which means 70 tile culture on the border jungle tiles. The smart thing to do would be to plant one tile behind the border. We'll see if Commodore does the smart thing or the Commodore thing. wink

Right, well, I'm sure you're waiting for the main event - combat. yuris dry whipped Edirne for a ninth Longbow as expected, and also moved a Longbow out of Gaziantep to head towards Edirne. He also retreated his southern Longbow that was cut off. Anyhow, simulations seemed to show slightly better results if I attacked with the stronger units as soon as they got decent odds. In I went, and:

Barely won. lol Didn't get lucky on any low odds fights, but didn't lose any high odds ones either.

Best building haul yet, along with a 2gpt shrine. I moved in the southern Knight which still had movement, as well as the Spearman that I strategically placed three tiles from the city last turn to make sure Commodore can't raze the city opportunistically with his newsvan.

Oh and we got a Scientist. thumbsup Some other interesting stuff here. I decided not to found Rakkis Crossing on the site of the Alamo, and instead it will be founded next turn as a replacement for Gaziantep. Gaziantep will definitely fall next turn, we have more than enough to take two Longbows and an Axeman. The other Longbow cannot get back into the city because it is now off the road network. lol Anyhow, the new city gets us Dye immediately during the turn, which alleviates the unhappiness that HC is now under due to increased WW. It will suck massively because the farm chain is broken due to lack of borders over the farms, but the luxuries are worth it. At EOT, Stonefort will come out of revolt and Rakkis Crossing will pop borders, giving us a second Dye and Gems. KD will also pop borders, giving us a second Sugar. So we'll offer Dye and Sugar to Mist during the turn, as the signs say.

Overview of the core. We teched Democracy this turn, and will start the Statue of Liberty. The SoL is ridiculously expensive, so in 2t we will pop our second GA and swap into Universal Suffrage to help build it. Then we'll swap back to Representation with the new bonus specialists.

Just realized that I forgot to rename Edirne. Oops. Maybe Edirne will be Rakkis Crossing then, and the new city can be Arreat Crater.

Hey, just had a quick peek at the save. Sorry I wasn't available, looks like it was a fun turn. Don't really have a lot to add just wanted to let you know I'm still paying attention.

Barring catastrophe I should be available-ish tonight to pay (around 8) though I won't have full attention to give. That might be the last I'm available to any significant extent for a little while, however.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Sounds like Commodore attacked Dave and razed Thessia. I bet Dave feels stupid now giving Commodore Pig and Stone.

I believe you should settle the city on the border with mistibod before he settles it on you instead and you have to go to war with him. I just checked the save, and yeah, mistibod signed peace with commodore and Commodore wardecced Davy. This means those two are going to split him up and it also means that mistibod is going to be looking for all the land they can get. Yuri's old capital is prime real estate (the plains on the coast is in mistibod's borders, if I'm him I'm making that a priority to steal from you). Send your current settler to that hill SE of the rice. Allow stonefort to grab the dyes at the end of turn. And don't send Mistibod any more resources.

Clearly I should ask davy if he needs some iron...

So yeah we played turn 129.

Funny turn of events. Commodore razes Thessia as I expected, probably using that Morale Knight that davy mentioned. davy learns that he shouldn't defend a border city next to his capital with only one Warrior. Here's hoping he'll defend rigorously against Commodore for this betrayal. lol

Most logical location for Commodore's replacement city there. And it's a damn good spot, especially for this late in the game. Unfortunately for Commodore, davy never dejungled those riverside tiles. lol davy's capital culture will prevent him from working the Banana, but everything else will be available.

We razed Gaziantep this turn, with a disappointing 80.8% CKN loss. Got like 74g. And as you can see, Mist signed peace with Commodore, having lost a lot of power last turn bringing it down to davy's level. Still, it'll go back up faster than davy I'm sure.

Anyway, with Mist and Commodore no longer fighting, we definitely did not offer Mist more free luxuries this turn. We will keep the current trades as a sign of friendship, but Mist is trying to snipe the Istanbul site from us...

Settler on our Chariot there. Fortunately we still have that unused Settler, so we diverted it to the site as Lewwyn advised, and we will beat him to the site next turn unless he has four workers in the fog there. Mist may be annoyed but I doubt he'll attack us when he can be taking a bite out of davy. We did move all of the remaining units in the area into defensive positions this turn as a preventative measure. This has the unfortunate side effect of not immediately claiming the Dye and also not claiming the Gems, but we'll just have to live with some unhappiness in HC for a few turns until we can find time for a Market (an Islamic Temple is also an option as a quicker fix). We built a Pavilion this turn to reduce it.

Along those lines, we teched Compass and will be teching Optics next turn to hook up the Whale. And we'll plant the Whale/Deer city in 3t. Oh and Commodore got Communism as expected.

Should finish Yuri ASAP to get rid of WW, tech steel, get a few cannons and attack commodore while he's balls deep in davy...

Oh look, Lewwyn is telling us to keep attacking. What a surprise. lol

I bet Commodore will swap into Free Speech next turn.
