Nothing like the Prodigal Sons: The Odd Couple actually play as themselves.

Eh you don't have BW yet so you're better off planting on the hill. Not sure you could defend 1N of that if Gavgai decided he wanted to come at you bro.

t39 - Its all over now, baby blue

I took the liberty of playing this one quickly because there's nothing to do beyond fortifying a warrior and hitting enter.

Here's the demos:

Of course all that matters this turn:

Yeah, if that was anyone else, no big. With it being Seven, that's probably game over. I'd debate suggesting as much in the tech thread, but I'm sure all the newbies will want to play, so I'll just worry about trying to play a good game and move on from there.

No idea on the other neighbor. My current map theory (which I guess I'm positing for the first time here) is that all the players are grouped with one very close neigbor on an island. I think we're on a larger island with 4 players however - I'm basing this wholly off that rotated "lake" in the middle. That would imply we're in the center of the map. Tree growths are pines though, so we're not along the equator. Anyway, my guess is there's 4 on our rock with a 2 player island off each of the coasts on ours. Our island though is probably just two of the islands pressed together, given that neither us nor Warren G have encountered our western neighbor. I suppose that its possible we share an island with Seven and Retep, though unlikely.

On the plus side, if all the capitals are like ours, getting an extra capital won't be a huge advantage for Seven. [24] Of course, if they're like Gavagai's, that's another story altogether. [25]

That is a seriously depressing development with Seven getting a freebie second capital. What turn could Seven finished BW? Zulu rush sounds easily doable against retep, who appears to be an all-in type player who throws an early gambit that either sets him up very well or totally screws up game balance... rolleye

Note that I base this off very little evidence, just the kind of conjecture that you get at the end of a 3 hour layover chasing a 12 hour flight. Total zombie mode. But I still think I could prevent being eliminated by T40. Ugh. Well, let's set some goals. Finish a strong second or play a novel game variant? Also, alt click goreripper when we meet. Heh, are you back in the country? You can play pb11! (Kidding, like one turn has passed since you left, or close to it).

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Well, I had some suspicion this was happening with retep's "woe is I" post in the tech thread combined with some civstats stuff, so that's why you're not seeing the sky is falling routine a bit deeper. I don't know what retep did wrong or what he could have done differently, so its hard to say. I do think it would generally be doable to defend against an Impi rush even without copper but I also don't really know how exciting that is - you know you're behind the 8-ball even if you succeed.

Right now I'm of the mentality to try and finish a strong second. I think if we had one of the weak sisters of the game as a neighbor, I'd think we could still win. Gavagai isn't going to roll over and show us his belly, though. If Gavagai was say, ad hoc or Kuro, I'd feel a lot better. He isn't, so I don't. For right now, we try and play a sound game. Then somewhere in the next 50-75t we decide if we want to throw a Hail Mary to try and make up for Seven's start or if we're content to keep plugging. I don't foresee us going full variant, though. Somewhere around 100t from now Seven will be far enough in front that the newer players will be more willing to call it so we'll do that and move onto a game that doesn't have Seven in it.

some folks thought Commodore was fit to be crowned in pb8 when ScooPin ejected from the continent. anything can happen.

Well, there are two differences:

1) Seven is a whole fucking lot better than Commodore.
2) Seven only has one trait (plus cheaper ikhandas).

Do the two cancel out? Probably not.

My goal for the remainder of the game is to murder any team who is consistently rude in the tech thread. Noble is on our team, so we will tolerate no rudeness from any other source. wink
