[No players] Big epic lurking - PB74

Pindicator:

Oh no, not suspicious at all. I really was tempted to just declare and sink all 4 of them now. But I covered cities they were nearby and just let it be, because I don't want to give up entirely (unless of course Mig & Comm have both conceded).

If Plemo attacks, I'm giving up on Gav and wiping Plemo off the map - and not conceding until that is done.

Commodore:
I know I'm just serving time but Miguelito is taking forever and a day to play now even after Gav's slower turns. When Pindicator gets back probably should have a lurker ask about ending this.

Requested a lurker do what Krill did.

Miguelito:
Btw, Commodore has asked for a replacement which is equivalent to concession? If pindicator also wants to concede we don't have to continue for the sake of me (he isn't spending a lot of time on his turns generally and his war commitment has been halfquarter-hearted). Surely Gav already has earned the medal.
Mig is the only one where I'd say it's 50/50 on the concession text.

If three people are saying I'll concede if they have, because they are in a coalition against a runaway player, then it makes sense that they concede. If they were in communication at this point, it is likelier than not they would concede.

@MJMD it is time for a lurker to take action here. Player has requested in, and the signals are clear.

Lurkers shouldn't ask for a concession unless a player isn't reporting or responding about. Just because Commodore wants us to ask, doesn't mean we should. There is a reason I posted in Pins thread about an update instead of specifically asking about concession. I was fishing, but not in a blatant manner. Pins says he doesn't want to give up UNLESS no one else is willing to fight and Mig says he doesn't want to give up UNLESS no one else is willing to fight.

I suspect is a moot point because Krill has probably already gone and done it.

Hmmm, I read their posts the other way, that they are willing to fight on unless no-one else WANTS to fight on - implying they don't actually want to themselves, but are OK to not quit if someone else does.

And here is where the nuances of the language fail to give clarity and I do think krill is right that we need to ask the explicit question.

I can see that interpretation, but I would expect more of a "I concede but I will keep fighting until the others do".

That does make it 3-2 (assuming Qs earlier post is on my side), so whatever. I just think lurkers should be cautious when interfering in a game.

at the risk of creating a deadlock, i'm with mjmd on this one - personally, i have posted things to the effect of what mig and pin are saying in threads before, and what i mean by them is roughly "i still want to play out my 5% or 1% chance for a win here, but i also am feeling guilty about forcing others to do the same knowing how much of a chore it is to be forced to play out a doomed position, so i want to give others an out if there is a unanimous feeling that the game should end". if two players still want to play out the 5%, i think it should be allowed, and while it's not clear that that's mig and pin's position, i think it's plausible enough that we should wait for something more definitive before calling the game. the downside risk of a premature game call (everyone is lastingly upset about not getting to play out the position) also seems much worse to me than of forcing people to play out a few more turns if they are indeed about to concede (comm is upset for maybe a week or two) so i tend to want to err on the side of caution.

that said i don't mind what krill did either, and maybe we will get something more definitive soon - it certainly doesn't seem like there is much active /enthusiasm/ for continuing this game, even for gav, and the ultimate outcome is indeed starting to shift into "beyond a reasonable doubt" territory

Edit: Let me put that a better way. If the other members of the coalition want to concede then we will. I want to fight on, but I don't think we have a chance if Miguelito & Commodore aren't motivated to.

To me that sounds like Pindicator still wants to play.

Both replied back. Both Pin and Mig want the game to end. Mig was explicitly thankful for being asked.

I think your all underestimating the pain this game is causing people, and you are being cruel to them in the guise of not being a spoiler.

I definitely read their comments as pseudo-concessions and wondered if I was the only one that interpreted it that way. I read them as only being willing to press on if the others were still all-in, which clearly nobody was. Of the 4 main players, nobody seems to be having a good time, and nobody has any disagreements over who is the heavy leader.

Soooo, does someone post in the general thread or...?

Krill should post. I'm still not 100% sure, but he's the one who's recieved separate confirmation.
