RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Peter of Byzantium

I hope you guys adopt a strategy of purely playing to not lose the game. This will drag on this war forever and take the Rebel Alliance out of the game. Who knows, you might even be able to push ahead.

Also, you should taunt them mercilessly the whole time for our entertainment. smile

EDIT:
Also, only 30 more posts to beat Sullla and Speaker's thread.

Heh, wars = posts. And have another one, on the house. Another post, not another war.

Taunting them mercilessly would be hilarious. :neenernee

But I'm not sure you've lost yet. Who knows, with a giant FFA game like this, there's plenty of time for you to come back.

T59 played. Archer was created in cap, and another archer is due in 1. Worker 2E of the cap cannot be hit this turn so he chopped. Worker that finished chopping last turn moved to the forested grassland hill 2W of the captial, and cannot be hit this turn either.

Spiros the warrior moved SW to continue scouting. There was a barb warrior visible last turn, but he has moved into the fog.

Alexander the worker is 4S1E of our capital, 2W1S of the enemy chariot, but with a forest between them so he cannot be attacked by Athelete this turn (although Athlete's warrior will be able to see him). The worker is 1E of the Speaker/Sullla warrior and we're counting on their good graces to keep him alive.

Finally, our new archer has 78% on Athlete's warrior on the hill 2S1W of our cap. I do not advise taking those odds though.

AH is due in 6.

Pics later, gotta make it to dinner now before they close.

Quote:Dear regoarrarr and the rest of Byzantium,

Thanks for the two messages that you sent us since we met. It is indeed under sad auspices that we found your team just as the war against athlete was breaking out. I heard that Speaker was in conversation with sunrise, and we were passed on the details of how athlete and kalin used some shady unit maneuvering to pull off their attack. Very, very underhanded stuff, even if it didn't "officially" break the rules. That information on how the whole conflict went down has been critical for our team already, because we were seriously considering offering a close partnership with athlete. They seemed so friendly in their initial greetings with our team. But in light of what we know now... I don't think that's going to be happening. We can't work with a team that has shown itself to be untrustworthy.

Speaker promised informally not to attack your returning worker, and I'd like to give you our formal word on that same subject in writing. Attacking a team for short term advantage - killing a worker while passing by - is not something we would do in this game. (We are not Krill!)

Obviously there's not a whole lot we can do at this point in time. But if it ever becomes possible to help out in your struggle against Ottoman aggression, we'd be willing to chip in what we can on your side. And yeah, yeah, I know - words are cheap and easy, action is what counts. But give us time, maybe we'll be able to come up with something. smile After all, we aren't really all that far away from your team.

In the meantime, how is your civ holding up militarily? Is there any chance that athlete would be able to capture Athens? We definitely don't want to see a runaway Ottoman team in this game!

Buttering us up which is clearly the right move.

Quote:Thanks for the worker escort. Hopefully he will be able to make it back and be useful. As for our military, I think it will be difficult for them to take Athens, at least with the chariot units that they have shown so far. We actually were 1-2 turns from being able to hold Paris - we had just researched Archery and had an archer coming out via whip - an archer on a hill would be tough (though not impossible) for a chariot to beat (initial odds are 2%)

We will keep you in mind for aid. We've had good relations with Jowy of the Greeks, and initial good things from the IKZers, though they seem to have fallen off the face of the earth as we have now sent them *5* messages without a reply. So I'm not sure what's going on there. If you said you were near the Greeks, maybe some sort of tri-partite alliance with the Greeks, us and you, which of course leaves us a nice "Greek sandwich" (a gyro, perhaps? :-P) after we take care of everyone else.

Of course that's all a bit premature for us right now - we are currently just focusing on staying alive and maybe even getting a 2nd city or some metal....

Chariot has moved on to the furs. Warrior has moved on to the wheat. Our archer now has 92.7% odds on the warrior.

2nd Archer due in 1. Would be a bit risky having them have a chance to take us out by attacking with the chariot. They would be going unpromoted chariot across the river into a 40% city with an archer (not on a hill). Odds are low but dunno.

I guess one upside to that is that if we get eliminated we don't have to continue to play a game for a year that we have very little chance to win

Is it worth sending something to them somehow trying to convince them not to pillage our camp / farm?

I LOVE the idea of the "gyro alliance" simply for the name wink

EDIT: Crosspost, but I caught it due to the silly "only one post every 2 minutes rule."

My concern with moving an archer out isn't merely giving them a 1v1 with their chariot, but the possibility they may have their other two chariots hiding in the fog. I have to check the tiles once I log back in, but the presence of the road we built means they may be trying to draw our archer out and then move the other chariots into position late in the turn.

Losing the game: not so bad. Allowing the team that beat us to walk away unbloodied: intolerable wink.

Will I be wary of their diplomacy? Yes
Would it be possible that this would make me choose to ally with someone else rather than them, all other things being equal? Yes
Do I think they broke or even bent the rules? No
Do I find their actions (I'm talking the forest roading and misclick) quite lame? Yes.
Do I like talking in questions and then answering them? Yes lol

Sorry, I couldn't resist to add :
Would it be possible that this would make me settle aggressive cities (in future games) toward someone else [than Athelete&kalin] if I have the choice?
If yes then at least they manage to show the other players that they would not accept being bullied smile
(which also had its advantage regarding future games)

No that's a good point. I think maybe it would cause me to make sure I have more than warriors backing up my aggressive cities :-D
