What do you do if Baghdad gets gifted to mh?
RB PBEM #1 - Mehmed (SPOILERS!)

Krill Wrote:What do you do if Baghdad gets gifted to mh? Off the top of my head, and in order: 1) Swear ... a lot. 2) Swear some more, possibly in public. 3) March past Bagdhad and kill athlete in Mecca (which he can't gift). 4) Send ~3 units to take Najran & eliminate athlete. 5) March army to gates of Baghdad. 5) Call mh names & impugn his honour in public. 6) Destroy HRE. I'd be very surprised if mh took this course ... though I was quite surprised he actually accepted Medina. Actually, while I have you lurkers here, could you make certain that mh has recorded his reasonings in his thread; I very much want to know what his justification was for taking this course of action, and also why he thinks it's different than the 'Poly game. Dreylin Wrote:Off the top of my head, and in order: Sounds like a completely reasonable response there... might be hard to play out if the war goes badly, but definitely cathartic. Dreylin Wrote:Actually, while I have you lurkers here, could you make certain that mh has recorded his reasonings in his thread; I very much want to know what his justification was for taking this course of action, and also why he thinks it's different than the 'Poly game. He's given his reasoning, yes. I'd respond with my thoughts on the whole situation, but that would probably be a spoiler for the current game.
t128 - a customary World Map trade with Ruff, and then I request Steam Power.
OK, no attacks IBT, so what's athlete doing with his troops? Pretty-much what we expected; they have all converged on Baghdad, except for a single Longbow which has returned to Mecca for MP. No new builds spotted, but he did upgrade a Cuirassier to Cavalry. Well, I think it's time to do something about that; Spy on athlete's Horses - 46EPs @ 80% - supply cut & Spy survives! ![]() Second Spy moves into Baghdad to prepare for Revolt. Did I mention that Baghdad is on flatland.... Northern Army moves onto flat land 3E,2N of Baghdad, if athlete is going to counter-attack, this is his opportunity. After this, the army will be on hills. I promote most of the fresh Cavalry to better fend off an attack. Southern Army continues to gather on the Windmill tile SSE of the city; it will move forward in 2t time to arrive simultaneously with Northern Army. Settler has completed at Diyarbakir; moves to spo within borders that can reach Damascus site next turn; Rifle is on way also. Draft anger has worn off enough that I can drop te culture slider back to 0%, but can't actually afford to Draft anywhere. Bursa - Conf Temple, Samsun - Cavalry, Diyarbakir - Barracks, Sarmatian - Caravel, Izmir - Conf Missionary. Sullla Wrote:He's given his reasoning, yes. I'd respond with my thoughts on the whole situation, but that would probably be a spoiler for the current game. Cool; not looking for any spoilers, I just wanted to make sure that I could find out once this was all over. ![]()
t129 - Grocer in Ankara greatly aids my economy. (up to 139gpt now)
Wow, looks like athlete really hit at my Northern stack; the whole log is filled with red. Cannon vs Cav - withdraws (27%) Cav vs Cav - wins (@68%) Cuir vs Cav - withdraws (@30% - ??% withdrawal) Cuir vs Rifle - withdraws (@11.5% - ??% withdrawal) Cav vs Rifle - wins (@64%) Cuir vs Rifle - wins (@22%) GG vs Cav - wins (1Cannon dies) (@50%) Cuir vs Jann - wins (3 Cannon die) (@68%) Rifle vs Cuir - wins (@88%) Mace vs Jann - loses (@10%) Rifle vs Jann - wins (@70%) Well, arse to all that. ![]() Promote Cannon Drill2 - 6% retreat vs. Rifle: dies without scratching Rifle (2unit collateral) Promote Cannon Drill2 - 6% retreat vs. Rifle: dies, but Rifle to 1/4 health (2unit collateral) Promote C1 Cav to Pinch - 43%(17%) vs. Rifle: dies Rifle vs. Cav @93%: wins Rifle vs. Rifle @97%: wins Jann vs. GG Cav @92%: loses (GG on 2hp) Jann vs. Cann @96%: wins Jann vs. Cuir @95%: wins Jann vs. Rifle @98%: wins Jann vs. Rifle @98%: wins Jann vs. Cuir @100%: wins Jann vs. Rifle @100%: wins Jann vs. Cuir @100%: wins Jann vs. Cuir @100%: wins Cav vs. Cav @96% : wins Hernan Cortes in single combat with Michel de Ruyter ... wins Athlete's stack is eliminated <phew>. Ottoman casualties: 3 Cavalry 1 Cuirassiers 2 Riflemen 3 Jannissaries 6 Cannon Arabian casualties: 1 GG Cavalry 2 Cavalry 4 Cuirassiers 4 Riflemen 1 Maceman So athlete came out ahead on the exchange by the Cannon he flanked off. But that is virtualy his entire military wiped out now. He did spawn a GG durng his turn, which was used to create a CG3 D4 Rifle in Baghdad, but other than that there are only 2 Rifles and a Longbow in Baghdad, and a single longbow in Mecca. Southern Army is not completely assembled, but I advance what is available to Baghad: 3Cav 2Rilfe 1Cannon 7Jann 1Pike That should be sufficient to take the city through weight of numbers after my Spy revolts away the defenses. (good job I had that planned since most of my Cannon are now dead) Hmmmm, since my Spy has not been stationary I do not have enough EPs to carry out that mission (and will be short of the absolute cost next turn as well); I'd better put 10% slider into EPs to mke certain I have sufficient. New Damascus is settled on the ruins of the old city. I slightly divert a Cav into Bursa for a turn to keep the peace while the Conf Temple is completed. Ankara - Theatre, Konya - Conf. Temple, New Damascus - Granary. Draft: Edirne, Konya.
t130 - Well I'm pleased to see from the mini-map that Baghdad remains in Arabia hands ... for now, at least.
![]() Hand some gold across to Ruff, and receive a Gold resource in exchange (Ruff popped one!) Well it looks like athlete has decided to abandon Baghdad - or mostly so: ![]() The Rifles attacked out and killed 3Janns from my wounded stack, leaving just a fresh Rifleman to guard the city. Since there's only one unit in there, I don't think it's worthwhile revolting the city; can save that for Mecca. Cannon bombards to 48% Cav promotes Flanking2 and attacks @1.4(59.2%): gets one hit in before dying. Pinch Jann attacks @2.7%: gets a second hit in befor dying. C2 Cav @42(20%): withdraws Pinch Jann @85%: wins Baghdad captured at just 2Pop, but with Granary, Bank & Courthouse. Bonus! OK, first things first; Cav advances through Baghdad to attack the Longbow retreating to the West on flat land @99% - wins without a scratch, then promotes C1 to minimise reprisal potential. OK, so how best to deal with athlete's Rifles? GG is on full health (CG3, D4), but others have barely any left. So I can either retreat and force him to attack me, or attack him. If I don't attack though, he could either retreat SW across a river back into his own lands lands, or N into mh and then circle back around to Mecca. I think I need to deal with him right here: C1 Rifle vs. GG @10% - loses, but GG is now at 9/14 health. C1 Rifle vs. GG @66% - wins The other two Rifles are taken out by injured Janns from the Northern Stack. Well that didn't go dreadfully, I guess. Majority of units move into Baghdad to heal, while a stack of un-injured start the march towards Mecca: 1Cavalry 2Cannon 6Jannissaries 1Pikeman I have a few reinforcements moving forward, but will start to keep the majority in Bursa. A bunch of Workers start towards Kufah (now out of revolt) to hook up the Iron and Gems. My Confucian Missionary at the walls of New Damascus is pleased to discover that they already follow the true Faith; he heads past towards Kufah as well. Caravel heads out of Sarmatian and spots Whales N of the Island - no land in view yet though. Bursa - Cannon, Sarmatian - Ironclad, Izmir - Levee, Kufah - Courthouse. EPs still towards athlete since I probably want to revolt Mecca, but drop the slider back to 0%.
Oh, and I almost forgot to send these:
Quote:mh, Quote:sooooo,Time to cancel with sooooo to give me the flexibility, plus now that I have my first Ironclad on the way (due in 2t) I can block any boating moves at least until Astro.
Got a reply from sooooo:
